I just stumbled upon this: http://www.openshotvideo.com/, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenShot_Video_Editor
It's in a rather early development stage, but it's already looking pretty damn good
This could be just the thing to replace Cinelerra with, at least while Lumiera comes out of the oven (which I think will take a while)
Also, I love how it integrates with the workflow of other programs, instead of trying to replace them..
I always thought The GIMP had potential for video editing (in fact if I remember correctly they used it in some movies), but until now there was no pain-free way of working with video on it (GAP by itself only works for animations, not really video).. OpenShot just made it a lot easier

Haha, I'd gladly replace Cinelerra with anything that doensn't crash every half hour. I've been attempting video editing on linux for 3 years now, and nothing comes close to my trusted old Premiere workstation. Which is a great pity.DioXide wrote: This could be just the thing to replace Cinelerra with
There is (was?) Cinepaint, a special gimp version for film touch-up. But rather reduced feature-wise, the last time I tried it.
Re: OpenShot Video Editor
I found that Cinelerra's stability depends on the format you're using...
With the right format it doesn't crash every half hour.... More like every 45 minutes
Don't compare Linux video editing with Windows though.. The sad truth is that Linux is abysmal in this aspect, and will probably still be even with Lumiera (at least the first version of Lumiera).
At best it will best out consumer video editing applications from other platforms, but we're still a long way from professional video editing...

Re: OpenShot Video Editor
I wish I could at least find a commercial, professional video editor on linux. I mean, for 3D, I could use Maya on Linux (not that I need to, because Blender is excellent), but most commercial software developers continue to ignore Linux as an operating system. Which is very sad, because the stability is perfect for professional work.
Edit: On a similar note, there is no decent 3D CAD program for Linux, commercial or free.

There was one called MainActor... The reviews, at least of the Windows version, are pretty good
But it got the discontinue hammer when DivX bought the company that made it (MainConcept).
