Odd response from forum search box

Post by Michael Z Freeman »

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: sound linux linux-sound-base.
Made me laugh. Maybe the forum software has a sense of humour ? Looks like this could do with some adjustment unless there's some reason it is like that (can't think of one).

Same problem with 'ardour'.

What is the point of excluding the most useful search terms?

another response I get quite frequently
Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes.
I get it a lot when I'm flipping through search result pages and sometimes when I search anything in general.

Dear lazyweb,

This behavior is indeed annoying and there should be no need to restrict search so heavily now that we're on the new hosting.

However, where do I find this option in the phpBB administration?

I second that "annoying". More than that actually. As it is, the search feature is crippled because of this.

If I have a question that is specific to a program such as Rosegarden, I should be able to search all relevant posts that contain the word "rosegarden" . As it is, "rosegarden" gets ignored and I am left to manually go through all of the irrelevant results that have nothing to do with Rosegarden.

If an admin could be so kind to consider:
If this works from a list, that list shouldn't include proper nouns. If it's dynamic, then please consider making an adjustment: http://phpbbandbbcodes.com/viewtopic.php?t=194

Perhaps this could help?

Music Interest: New Age w/ a mix of modern smooth jazz, light techno/trance & downtempo -- something Epcot Future World/Tomorrowland-flavored.

Thanks for finding this option. I've disabled the feature.

it looks like it got enabled again. When searching "Ardour" I still get the "too common words" error message.

Hrm can't find it again :(. Will look closer later - of you can find a good pointer that'd be appreciated.

@raboof, could you please try this?

1. Lower the common word threshold to 0% to disable this behaviour
Admin Control Panel - General - Search settings - common word threshold-setting

2. Clean search index
Admin Control Panel - Maintenance - Database - Search Index - Delete Index, and then you Create Index

Thanks for looking this up. This setting was already at 0% though.

I've deleted the 'phpBB Native Fulltext' index and recreated it (which is now in progress)

I guess this made the difference: I'm already getting results when searching for "Ardour" or "Rosegarden" :)
Thanks!
