AVLinux and ArdourVST
I have the penultimate release of AVLinux installed. I have been using Ardour and ArdourVST.
I have updated to the latest version of Ardour, but I cannot get to the same revision level of ArdourVST.
I understand that ArdourVST is a special version. I have two questions:
What is the latest version of ArdourVST that is provided in AVLinux?
Is there a way I can get that version without reinstalling AVLinux?

Re: AVLinux and ArdourVST
ArdourVST is obsolete and not supported. It's a really awful idea to even try it.
Being creative does not imply being lazy, stupid, or illiterate.

Ardour with builtin wine/vst support.tavasti wrote:What is ArdourVST?
I think linvst or carla are better solutions for this.
There are no official ArdourVST binaries provided by ardour.org and with a good reason.
Paul Davis recently posted something about that on the Ardour forums.

Re: AVLinux and ArdourVST
Quite a few of the windows vsts I run worked fine in Ardour after exporting as LV2 through Carla. Even using less cpu than winebridged in carla.

Re: AVLinux and ArdourVST
If you export anything to LV2 through Carla though be warned that it will result in a hard crash of Ardour. It works for audio plugins just fine though. Linvst and Linvst3 are the way to go. They have the lowest memory usage and lowest CPU usage of all the bridge variants. They are the DXVK of VST bridges. Its a bit harder to use as you must copy and rename the linvst.so or linvst3.so file to the corresponding .dll vst file you're using (Make sure it is in the same directory as the .dll file though). I created a python script which makes it REALLY easy though. Just install my script to /usr/local/bin then use sudo chmod +x w2lvst2 or chmod +x w2lvst3 to make them executable. Go to the directory where your plugins reside and type w2lvst2 if it is a .dll file(s) or type w2lvst3 if it is a .vst3 file(s). Then, you just need to add /home/<your username>/.vst to your DAW's VST_PATH and scan.

Re: AVLinux and ArdourVST
Yeah I've only been using it on plugins like the T-Racks ones. Haven't had any problems.artofmusic wrote:If you export anything to LV2 through Carla though be warned that it will result in a hard crash of Ardour. It works for audio plugins just fine though.

Re: AVLinux and ArdourVST
Hi,
To answer the OP's question, ArdourVST was only ever included in 32bit versions of AV Linux and it isn't all as bad as some folks here are saying... ArdourVST is as stable as Ardour native when used with LV2 and LinuxVST plugins and your luck with WindowsVST's is like it is everywhere else... spotty at best..
The most recent release of AV Linux (2019.4.10) comes with LinVST all pre-configured and ready to go so ArdourVST was dropped because I had WindowsVST support both happening with LinVST and Carla-Rack already.
If anyone still using older AV Linux 32bit versions or a 32bit version of another Linux wants an up to date ArdourVST 5.12 bundled package (requires Wine to run) I do have one I can put up if there is a need, reply here or PM me.
