Why is that when I start Rosegarden it completely cuts any other sound that is currently playing, even If I do not have any midi ports configured or sound devices used in Rosegarden.
This looks like pretty odd behavior.
I see that Qtractor also does it without any output or input ports configured.

Maybe they're using Jack. PulseAudio can output sound to your speakers from more than one application at the time. Alsa and Jack can't.

????....Jack can't
I thought that routing audio was ihe primary function of jack.
Anyway, to the OP:
It sounds like Rosegarden is set to start jack automatically which will temporarily shut down the Pulseaudio server.
If you don't need jack you can uncheck the box in the Rosegarden options menu.
You can use pulseaudio-jacksink if you want to route to/from both servers at once.

Re: Rosegarden not playing nice with Audio
Yes thanks I got sync to work great.
Now none of those antics anymore with rosegarden.
It is really east to use alsa/jack/pulseaudio, and mine works at extreme low latency. Curious how the manuals on jack makes things way more difficult than it actually is. People shouldnt have to have any trouble with jack at all.
