Hello LM,
I have installed three DAWs: Audacity, Qtractor, and Ardour, but it's only Audacity I can get sound from, and only when I choose Alsa. With Ardour I got a setup window with options first time I started it, where I among other things could choose between Jack and Alsa. I chose Jack, and as said, there's no sound, even though both the meter of the track with audio and the master track meter shows activity. I also start Qjackctl before Ardour, and the connections look like this:
and as input and output device I have my M Audio soundcard:
Maybe I should have chosen Alsa in the setup window the first time. I've tried so, but it doesn't appear again with a new session, and not even after I un-install and re-install Ardour.
In Qtractor I see no Alsa/Jack option. Otherwise it's the same: no sound although the meters are active, and I have clicked the monitor buttons in the mixer. And here's the connections:
It has worked before, both Ardour and Qtractor, but for some reason not now. I use Linux Mint 17.1.
Anyone know what's wrong?

Re: No sound
Can you try starting jack from a terminal to see if there's something wrong? The connections look fine imo.

Re: No sound
It seems to work ok. I get this:
tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ qjackctl&
[1] 1057
and the Qjackctl windows opens.

and the Qjackctl windows opens.

Re: No sound
Hi again, now I get sound in Ardour. I imported an audio clip and it plays ok, but when I'm not playing it, there's a hell lot of electronic "white" noise
Same in Qtractor, except that here there's noise all the time after importing an audio clip, but only in the one speaker.
In Audacity I get sound okay now, when choosing Jack. Apparantly Jack wasn't running correctly in the first place, so maybe starting it from a terminal has put something right. Thanks for suggesting it.
Now it's just the noise in Ardour and Qtractor, that is strange.

Re: First no sound, then sound + noise
I see the capture (mic or line in) directly connected to the system playback, that's probably where the noise comes from.
Capture should only be connected to the 'In' ports, like "Master In" in Qtractor

Re: First no sound, then sound + noise
Oh, thanks for this And I see that a capture also has to be disconnected if it's not used. When I disconnected Capture 1 from Master/in 1, the noise in the left speaker disappeared.

Hello everyone!
I have the same problem with qtractor on Arch Linux.
After a long installation process I finally got qtractor to work, with jack and qsynth in the background.
I think that the connection should be fine, because in the master in and out it shows that there is an input/output. Also, when I look at the qsynth it shows a rhythmical green signal from the metronome, as it should. However, there is, as I said, no sound whatsoever. I played around a little trying to figure out some more; I found out that as long as qtractor is running, even other sources like youtube can't play sound. Videos would load but just stop and "play" didn't work, because there was no sound. Maybe this usual for qtractor, but I found it rather suspicious for some weird bug or so.
Is there anything I'm missing to make it work?
