Ardour and Plugins

Post by lilith »

Hi,

I'd like to know your experience with Ardour and Linux Plugins (LV2, LADSPA, etc.). I recently set up my PC (Debian 9) in the hope to get rid of some problems with Ardour crashes. However, just a minute ago I loaded the Zynaddsubfx into Ardour (Version 5.12) and it immediately crashed.

The last I've seen in the terminal was Speicherzugriffsfehler aka segmentation fault

Code: Select all

Scanning folders for bundled LV2s: /opt/ardour/lib/LV2
Set cursor set to default
lo server running on 15862
Speicherzugriffsfehler
I have the feeling I'm the only one with such issues as for everyone else Ardour seems to be rock solid. Can such issues be solved or are the reasons somehow known?

Don't blindly install distros because something crashes.
1st thing when ardour crashes, get on irc #ardour.
When the devs are there (and that's most of the time) they'll help you find the cause of the crash.
las and rgareus are the core developers.

Also check out this page.
https://ardour.org/debugging_ardour
Good bug reports really help developers.
Also specify where you got ardour and where you got the plugin. Like, main repos or ppa, kxstudio.

Ok, I think I really have to choose the Ardour debug version.

Wait... if only Zyn crashes, it may be a Zyn problem, not an Ardour problem. How many other plugins did you try ?

Zyn for instance and on my previous system helm. Today ardour crashed when exporting a track to wav, etc. I'll continue using it and see what else is coming up. I also think that the reason are plugins ..

Now midi isn't working anymore. I made a2j -e, in Claudia the midi port come up, everything is connected, but ardour isn't responding to my midi keyboard anymore ...

Install and test http://linuxsynths.com/YoshimiBanksDemos/yoshimi.html with it.

Your MIDI connection is connected http://manual.ardour.org/midi/
and on "Monitor: Input : This button forces the channel to monitor it’s input." http://www.harrisonconsoles.com/mixbus/ ... her?q=disk?

All midi connections where set up correctly, I don't know what the problem was. Now it works again. Also my alsa audio bridge was broken, after installing zita, alsa bridge worked again. Maybe this was related to the kernel I have installed. Anyway.... alsa makes problems here (noise distortion, depending on the latency). With pulse audio everything is fine.

BTW.: Here is a post by me in the ardour forum about resetting connections in claudia.

https://community.ardour.org/node/15628

Short version (see also here: http://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=6751): When using a Claudia studio it saves connections when "don't restrict self connect requests" is checked. When inserting new tracks in Ardour tracks get reconnected which is not wanted. Sometimes this even leads to feedback loops inside Ardour. How do u manage this? When setting Cadence to "Ignore self connect requests" the connections can't be done in Ardour anymore.
