Nektar GX 61 Not connecting to Bitwig. Running JACK on Kubuntu 16.04
I cannot for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Auto-detect seems to find the controller just fine, although I don't receive any sound output whenever I hit the keys.
I can use the controller just fine in Sunvox and Yoshimi, but Bitwig is the only one giving me problems.
ALSA doesn't seem to be working with Bitwig at all whenever I select it in preferences, so I can't test it with that.
I've googled previous answers, which instructed people to update JACK to the latest version, which I've done. I have all the KX Studio repositories installed and JACK configured.
Another answer said to install the Jack to ALSA midi bridge, which I have installed and running in Cadence, but how do I go about using that?
Any help would be appreciated! I've been dabbling into Linux audio for a year now, but I've always felt rather lost in it all. ;~;

I don't use bitwig but, assuming It uses jack midi, you have to bridge alsa midi hardware to jack midi.
Not sure about how to do this in Cadence but in a terminal this command should do the trick:
a2jmidid -e &
Then, you should see the hardware in any Jack connections manager, Jack midi under a2j.

Your device should talk to Bitwig via ALSA directly.
You may be having an issue with your Jack configuration. Make sure that your device is set to ALSA ("-d alsa" in your jackd config)
Bitwig does NOT support Jack MIDI. This is my biggest gripe with Bitwig. I can get everything to work just fine though.
I still prefer it over other DAWs because of the way I like to work.
I don't know your situation. I find I often have to use the "alsa_in" command for connecting devices to Bitwg, but not controllers.
Setting and tips are documented on the Bitwig help site. Search for "Jack MIDI".

Before starting Bitwig, try running command
sudo modprobe snd_virmidi
and then do the other mentioned steps.
Good luck.

I'm curious what your reasoning for suggesting this is.glowrak guy wrote:Before starting Bitwig, try running command

I recently also struggled getting Bitwig to actually receive MIDI from my controller even though Bitwig detects it.
My fix was to close everything else that might be using the controller, i.e. Alsa-Jack bridges as Bitwig needs exclusive access to the hardware.
So make sure you kill everything like a2jmidid, etc., then restart Bitwig.
