Starting and stopping webcam recording using Ardour and Guvcview

Post by Broomy »

I use Ardour to record and sometimes use guvcview to record video through my webcam while recording the audio.
Now I have to flip between the two programs to start stop the video and audio.

I understand that Guvcview can handle SIGUSR1
This is what the developer said on the Guvcview mailing list:
As for system signals, guvcview already checks for those:

SIGUSR1 - starts/stops video recording
SIGUSR2 - saves a frame (image)

e.g: killall -s SIGUSR1 guvcview -----> will toggle video recording
on all guvcview instances running on your system

so if you can configure your start/stop signals to emit a SIGUSR1 signal to
guvcview, this should do what you want.
Would it be possible to start and stop Guvcview using Ardour?
And what would be a could be good route to go?

Or does anybody knows an alternative way to record audio and video?
