Linux Mint: Jack cannot start (it did work, then failed, now broken)

Post by hanzf »

Hello,

I recently changed from Puppy Linux to Linux Mint 17.3.
I installed Ardour 4.6, and I also installed invada-studio-plugins-lv2 and caps-lv2 plugins.
The first time I ran it, ardour worked, but then, suddenly, the sound was completely gone, not only in Ardour but all over the system.
I got the sound back running

Code: Select all

sudo alsa force-reload
and rebooting the computer.
Now every time I start Ardour and try to load a session, I get the error message "cannot reconnect to audio/MIDI engine".
Then the sound is gone again, and I get it back by running "sudo alsa force-reload". No reboot necessary.
When I start jackqctl, I see the following in the message window:

Code: Select all

23:22:57.471 Patchbay deactivated.
23:22:57.501 Statistics reset.
23:22:57.597 ALSA connection change.
23:22:58.465 D-BUS: Service is available (org.jackaudio.service aka jackdbus).
Cannot connect to server socket err = Connection refused
Cannot connect to server request channel
jack server is not running or cannot be started
23:22:58.494 ALSA connection graph change.
Then I click "start" in jackqctl, and this is what jack says:

Code: Select all

23:42:27.330 D-BUS: JACK server could not be started. Sorry

I tried pasuspender as described here: viewtopic.php?t=13234 but it didn't help.

Who has an idea what's wrong?
Should I post the JACK settings or other config information?

thank you,

is it a usb one? I'd check the cables...
Can you see this in the data I posted?
The soundcard is onboard. When I start the computer, I can play media with VLC, and watch youtube videos with chromium. Sound is ok, no problem. Only when I try to start JACK, I get the above-mentioned error message, and then I have to run "sudop alsa force-remove" in order to get the sound to work again.
Are you sure its a hardware problem?

Ok, I ran puppy linux 5.7.1 on my computer, and jack worked with no problems.
Would it make sense to take the jack configuration settings from the puppy linux version to linux mint?
