Re: rescue system
hi raboof, no, I could not edit the grub stuff at boot time because there was NO entry, and the syntax was unknown to me (grub2 entry style) ... about the 'nouveau' driver, I had not expected things to happen this way. I just thought: OK, let's boot to X and see what happens (I had not even configur...

rescue system
Hello, A couple of days ago, I updated all my machines to grub2. What the update was missing is a reconfiguration of debian package 'grub-pc'. A shame because this config tells grub2 which hard-drive to consider at boot time. So I ended up with unbootable machines, including my DAW PC!! OK...

Re: Windows vs non realtime kernel Linux
the RME HDSP PCI card can go down to 0.6 ms in s/w/ latency. Much less in h/w latency (monitoring bypassing the whole PC).

Re: snd-aloop, jack, etc
hi guys, I had the time to look into this kernel module crap yesterday evening and I found an easy way to remedy the problem but it is a little drastic. 1- snd-aloop is not included in the kernel tree baseline, so you have to compile it from the alsa-driver source code. 2- the ALSA version mismatch ...

Re: Hydrogen 0.9.5-rc1 released
@funkmuscle: It is not my intention to minimize or downplay the great quality and usefulness of hydrogen but what you are mentioning here is one of the reasons I switched to Addictive Drums for my drumming needs. Yes, it's a plugin with no built-in sequencing capability, yes, it comes as an "ev...

Re: Brian Setzer 'Straight Up'
hi raboof, after a rather quick listen, I would say that the b-flat simply comes from the standard blues combo G7 - C7 (C7 has B-flat). Except here, the C7 is skipped and the song goes straight to a hidden D7 (hidden because of what you mentioned about the bass progression). But if you place a C7 as...

Re: Ubuntustudio vs 64studio?
hi, FIFO scheduling priority does not take a negative value but something between 0 and 100, 100 between the top priority. Try something like jackd -R -P70 -blabla (Looks like there's some confusion between nice level and scheduling priority level) PS: any reason why you use -n 4 ? 2 would be the be...

Re: Ubuntu PPA for *all* Linux Multimedia stuff
-20 to 19 sounds more like the so-called 'nice' value range. WINERT as a variable defined for RT scheduling looks more like the SCHED_FIFO priority level (0 to 100). But better check than not

Re: Ubuntu PPA for *all* Linux Multimedia stuff
I have not tried it myself but I suppose the number goes from 0 to 100 (RT watchdog being at 99 usually, jack somewhere between 10 and 70, etc). As to the WINERT, it looks like a environment variable, so you would need to set it before calling wine: WINERT=10 wine blabla.exe or you can have it in so...

Re: Crossing the Arch
I can actually try on my old laptop and see if the vanilla kernel performs well. The processing power is much smaller though (pentium M, 1.6 GHz), so I guess as soon as the DSP load is > 70-80%, I'll get some crap. But for HD multi-tracking, I can see how it fares.

Re: Crossing the Arch
I don't run an RT patched kernel. The vanilla is good enough in my environment and more stable as well.

Re: Crossing the Arch
rtirq triggered on non RT kernel doesn't do much as far as I can tell, so there is no harm.
