Re: Beacon
Interesting! What do you use to show oscilloscope in your video? I think ffmpeg does all the work. I use this script - written by Michael Gogins - to make the video: #!/usr/bin/env bash if [ "$#" -ne 5 ]; then echo "Usage: $0 [audio file path] 'artist name' 'album name' [artwork imag...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VNYtmaFw4I Audio from a simple performance patch for VCV Rack. The patch is partially generative. Pitch sequences are largely preserved, randomized resets of the sequencer provide some rhythmic variety. The chord series is fixed, no variation occurs there. Best regar...

Re: Remembering a 'Good Guy'..
Sad news indeed, but thanks for the notice.
Oh yes, I know a bit about the Cinelerra story, the early days anyway. It seems that Bill and Phyllis essentially rescued the project from oblivion.

Hi Hey man ! Haven't found time for a sustained visit down here to the LM's basement bar and lounge in a while and catching up is going to take some time! What a blessing to walk in and hear 'that' voice! What a powerhouse tune! Locomotive thumb much!? The chord voicings are beautiful too.. excelle...

Re: 4 questions in a row
what can you do if you don’t have a good voice but want to sing? Who do you think of when you say "a good voice" ? Many of my favorite singers don't have "pretty" voices but that doesn't always matter the most when it comes to singing. How can you improve your singing voice? Sin...

Re: Jade
Gave it another listen today. Fine work throughout. After reading your notes I'd say you achieved your goals. Sometime in the 70s I heard a touring Chinese group perform at the Cleveland Museum Of Art. I never forgot the experience. Some of the sounds were somewhat familiar but the overall timbre sp...

Re: Angeles (cover)
Greetings, and my thanks for your responses. pdechery - I agree, the song is a great composition. The lyrics, melody, and accompaniment are all 1st-class work. I'm glad you enjoyed my spin on it. Btw, the original recording was done in Ardour, but alas, the mix has been lost so there's not much more...

https://soundcloud.com/davephillips69/angeles-cover An old recording recently hauled from the vaults. I touched it up a bit with some tools in VCV Rack, but alas, the original was not so very well-recorded. The performance is enjoyable though, so I decided to post it anyway. The song of course is te...

I've read only the last few posts in this thread, but should this site's presence ever be in jeopardy I would surely donate $$ for its continued existence. Gladly, at any time.

Re: BespokeSynth - modular softsynth/graphical programming env./DAW - Linux build?
@davephillips and anyone who runs BespokeSynth. Does VST loading work for you? I have weird problem: engine stops after adding any plugin, but overall app is still alive https://github.com/awwbees/BespokeSynth/issues/18 I rolled back to old commits (when VST supports began) and got no luck, seems l...

Re: online music instruction ?
I agree that theory might be asynchronous, but I'd add a short 1-on1 session for questions and also create accountability where you say at the end of your video: "I'll ask you a few questions about it on our 1-on1 session. It'll motivate the students not just to consume but also to reflect on ...
