Re: Reaper vs Ardour?
Keep in mind that good MIDI functionality is important even for people who don't make "electronic music". Exactly. I'm pretty good at guitar and bass, but not as good on a keyboard. I don't have the time or patience to keep pressing the record button until I get that "perfect" p...

Re: Reaper vs Ardour?
In my own experience, recording tracks in Ardour is as immediate as you describe it in REAPER from my own experience! Sure, once you set up your initial environment future recording sessions are basically immediate, however, that's true of any DAW. But a fresh install? Noooo. Not even close. Reaper...

Re: Reaper vs Ardour?
The paradigm in Reaper appears to be a load of dialog boxes... Wait, what? A load of dialog boxes? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be confrontational, but this doesn't even make sense. You seem to be saying you like Ardour because it looks like a mixing console. Great! You don't need any other justifi...

Re: Reaper vs Ardour?
I started recording on analogue equipment. That makes me old. :) So the way Ardour works makes sense to me. If your first experiences of recording were with a computer then the concepts in Reaper may make just as much sense. Sure, I'm old too and my first "studio" was based around a Tasca...

Re: The corruption of Audacity
Not going to happen, ever. Anyone who would be interested in working on an audio editor is probably already contributing to a project like this already. I know you're familiar with logical fallacies and while I don't see an obvious one here it is a weak argument. You've heard of black swans I take ...

Re: Reaper vs Ardour?
The Reaper love is coming from people who produce electronic music. lolwut? When I want to write electronic music I use LMMS. I use Reaper when I want to record live instruments. And I use it over Ardour for several reasons, but most importantly it's super easy and has every feature I need. I have ...

Re: The corruption of Audacity
OK, so I was willing to tolerate the hideous UI, the fact that the JACK implementation is shit, and the fact it causes xruns if you do ... well, anything really because it was open source. I get the feeling most of us have always "tolerated" Audacity and the fact that after all this time ...

Re: How do you learn to use new programs?
I learn every new program with the official documentation at hand. This is probably a carryover from the pre-Internet days when "help" in the program's menubar was actually useful and clicking it opened a local document with everything you needed to know. As a developer, if there are two c...

Re: Configuring a new setup, JACK and stuff
MC3PO, I recently started using the native Linux builds of Reaper on Linux Mint 20 and I found it extremely helpful to install Ubuntu Studio Controls (now forked and stupidly renamed to Studio Controls , which is super hard to search for). This tool was created by Len Ovens and it takes care of all ...

Cool. Reminds me of the simple-yet-powerful tools Bram Bos makes.

Re: Rebirth Re-doooz
Dusted off a couple old Rebirth RB-338 files. Nice. It was about this time last year I did the same thing. Decided to go back to nearly two dozen .RBS files and export all the tracks as stems and also dumped some individual drum sounds from several mods for future sampling/remixing. At that time I ...

Re: The Complete Ardour MIDI videotutorial
Incredible video. Thanks for posting the script, I'll be able to reference your helpful default setting changes next time I dive into Ardour MIDI. The video reminded me how Ardour embodies excellent software development, even though I find some of the controls unintuitive.

Re: New MusE logo
Maybe just slightly too barren with this one  Agreed, and thanks for the feedback. I'm just making jazz out of Oscillator's designs and I'm putting hardly any thought or effort into it. This isn't something I would seriously work on without explicit direction from the MusE team. But I like co...
