Re: Zynthian Open Synth Platform

@chaocrator Thanks for the links. I've heard of bela some (IIRC they had a LAC presentation) and I think I've heard mentions of Axoloti. I had not heard of PreenFM2, though. PreenFM2 appears to be a single synth which builds off commodity electronic hardware with a quite nice enclosure, though it's ...

Re: Zynthian Open Synth Platform

@j_e_f_f_g that complaint would be entirely valid if they were just trying to sell a raspberry PI, but zynthian is building off of the cheap small form factor computer that the raspberry pi offers. Heck the complaint might even be reasonable if they were just trying to combine different software wit...

Re: ZynFusion goes Open Source

are there other patch/sound libraries available than the bundled ones ? 1,319 instruments not enough for you eh? If you're looking for other presets I would suggest https://www.kvraudio.com/product/zynaddsubfx_by_paulnasca/downloads for zyn specific banks and https://musical-artifacts.com/ for more...

Re: ZynFusion goes Open Source

Maybe I'm being thick, but I couldn't find how to download and build Zyn Fusion... You're looking for https://github.com/zynaddsubfx/zyn-fusion-build/wiki/Building-on-Linux The new UI has a lot of different components which are broken into sub-libraries. Most of them are combined within the mruby-z...

Re: Poll ZynAddSubFX new UI

the new interface decouples the audio engine from the GUI, that before were (too) closely interconnected. Communication between GUI and audio engine is now handled via Open Sound Control protocol, so this is a big change that in principle allows for third parties interfaces to be added "more e...

Re: My wish for ZynAddSubFX: Grouped Drum Kit

So I have recreated four tom drums using ZynAddSubFX that is based on the soundtrack from Captain EO pre-show music in between 7:20 to 9:00 and I want the tom sounds not to overlap when I play tom drums in succession. Basically, I want the four tom drums to be monophonic -- that the next press of a...

Re: Poll ZynAddSubFX new UI

Other than the ramp-up time to relearn the UI, are there any other drawbacks? I've admittedly used ZynAddSubFX so infrequently in the past that the new UI seems much prettier, but not much less complex. It may get me to actually use ZASF though! :D Documentation is always a concern and certainly on...

Re: Zynaddsubfx 3.0.3 - The “She Scanned” Release

Is there a config file other than test.json? For the GUI at the moment, that's the only configuration asset at the moment. Currently it loads all of the labels and tooltips from that file and it was built with translations in mind (i.e. if the osc schema is replaced with a translated version then t...

Re: Zynaddsubfx MIDI learn (The taming of the Zyn, Act 1)

Based upon a test that another zyn dev ran today it looks like something is buggy about the NRPN parsing. Non-NRPN MIDI CCs should work fine however.

@tony-j I don't quite understand what you're asking. What do you mean your controller has "95 control change parts"?

Re: Zynaddsubfx 3.0.3 - The “She Scanned” Release

Cool, very exciting to see a new release. I reported a bug on the irc a while ago about saved settings sounding different between two versions, I think 3.0.0 and 3.0.1. The (I think) main dev was able to reproduce it but I didn't check on the progress, do you know if that was fixed? I've been holdi...

Re: Advice on GUI toolkits

Otherwise you're stuck implementing a lot of event handling, a ton of drawing routines, and stuck researching a lot of moderately interesting "how should the user reasonably interact with XYZ". I am quite positive I want to avoid that. In fact, I was wondering whether there is some toolki...

Re: Advice on GUI toolkits

One general on topic comment as per the original question However, I would also appreciate the ability to make good scientific data visualization, as I have in mind mostly measurement programs. I never did any GUI programming outside visual basic (more than 10 years ago) and Matlab, so I guess my qu...

Re: Continuous sound from 1sec. sample

What type of sound? (drum/guitar/horn/wildlife/etc)

Have you tried matching zero crossings for when your fading out/fading in?

How are you fading? (linear/log-equal-volume)

Is the goal a droning sound? (you could use fft->phase-randomization->ifft if that's the case)
