Re: Gah....

turning pulseaudio off, is virtually impossible, for anyone without any real linux know how. For Ubuntu and other distributions using systemd, to stop Pulseaudio for current session: systemctl --user stop pulseaudio.socket pulseaudio.service Replace 'stop' with 'start' to turn it back on without re...

Re: Rosegarden & Jack issues!

I got no sound when Jack is running. All youtube videos just freeze also That is likely to be a problem with audio playback in Pulseaudio trying to play to ALSA device taken by JACK check if you have module-jackdbus-detect in Pulseaudio: pactl list short modules |grep 'jackdbus' if not, you need to...

Re: Gah....

I meant that it was not following the open source ethic to incorporate some package or other into a piece of software such that the piece of software becomes exclusive. As for name calling, all I did was point out that it is in breach of what is the accepted opensource software 'contract' to publis...

Re: EEK. Ubuntu studio using system wide instance of pulseaudio

I have always been advised to never run pulsaudio as a system wide instance, for security reasons. Pulseaudio documentation confirms it is usually not good to run Pulseaudio as system-wide daemon But Pulseaudio running under systemd is not running as system-wide daemon it still uses daemon.conf and...

Re: Installing Ubuntu Studio

I prefer to do partitioning before installing
then choose manual install option ('do something else')
because automatic installs can create a different partition layout

there is not usually much difference either way to how partitions are created

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

This is bad news for me; I've just installed Ubuntu Studio last weekend and was about to add the KX repos (and amongst other things I wanted to use Cadence instead of Ubuntu Studio Controls). Do you remember where you read that? Do you have a link maybe? Erich Eickmeyer from Ubuntu Studio has said ...

MXL BCD-1 Polar pattern:Cardioid Sensitivity: -54 dB re 1 V/Pa Impedance: 600 ohms Zoom U22 Input gain: 0 – 43 dB Input impedance: 2.6 k Ω (MIC) 484 k Ω (Hi-Z) Cardioid is more forgiving than a super-cardioid, but still have to keep close and on-axis with this mic -30dB level seems low, but the zoom...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

KX Studio developer is on a break until later in the year and there does not appear to have been any updates for KX released since Ubuntu 19.04 came out so for KX packages may be better sticking with 18.04 LTS Ubuntu Studio 19.04 has a new package 'Ubuntu Studio Controls' for JACK appears to be very...

Re: Need help setting up a live show..

icecast for audio streaming (shoutcast if ok with closed-source and want extra features like auto-dj background player when not on air) you can find some free stream hosting, but most have limitations that may make it difficult to integrate to a website: limited time/bandwidth or inserting their own...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 dead silent in Debian (no PA)

About speaker-test . Calling it without arguments causes my builtin, onboard (it's a Thinkpad laptop) soundcard to kick in. upon which everything works. To actually force ALSA to use USB interface, I have used: speaker-test -D plughw:USB you probably don't need to use 'plughw:' (but it should still...

Re: Ubuntustudio 19.04 Jack Gui with new functionality

Ubuntu Studio was nearly dropped as an official Ubuntu flavour after 18.04. is good to see the project rejuvenated and innovating I'm mostly curious about Ubuntu Studio Controls (the reason for this thread, which somehow escaped me before). It looks like a nice user-friendly alternative to Cadence o...

Re: New guy here and already struggling with Jack!

getting JACK to start ok can be tricky first time around but it is usually a one-time thing to find the right settings for your hardware many JACK packages will start JACK when launched but can't cope with Pulseaudio sharing audio devices so it is better to use a JACK manager application before othe...

Re: Are there affordable microphones that last for decades?

The Q7 is what most people go for, and it works ok for some voices but the Q8 is a better option Samson Q8 - Supercardioid (2.5 mV/Pa; 50 - 16,000 Hz) SM58 - Cardioid (1.85 mV/Pa; 50 - 15,000 Hz) Shure mics do not push enough millivolts if an audio interface has only about 50dB gain in the preamps T...
