Re: 16.04 and USB audio

FWIW, no troubles or tweaks needed here with a 2i2 on Ubuntu MATE 16.04. Using the low-latency kernel from the Ubuntu repos.

Re: Any RPM Challenge people out there? Here's mine.

Thanks for the kind words folks! :D @JSantos, I'm 9-5 too, 12 hour days with the commute. It was a challenge to block out time and keep the energy going in the evenings--not sure I could do it again (but I'm going to try). I failed that last couple times I tried before I even really got going. @ssj7...

Any RPM Challenge people out there? Here's mine.

I've tried doing the RPM Challenge (writing and recording an album during February) for the last couple years but this is the first time I didn't give up due to technical issues getting my system set up. It was a good challenge. Tout la Fete https://toutlafete.bandcamp.com/releases (the title is a m...

Re: Please help with software choices- getting discouraged.

As someone who is both old and old school, and also a long-time Linux user who was perpetually discouraged by the similar issues of having an overabundance of dubious choices (as well as challenges getting my hardware sorted when I just wanted to get recording and not futzing), let me share what wor...

Re: Mixbus 3 is out, and PianoteQ now with concert harp!

I've been playing with Mixbus v3. It's fantastic. Very similar to v2 but with MIDI (thanks Ardour).

Between Mixbus and KXstudio, I think I am finally, truly satisfied with my Linux rig. :D

Re: Bitwig Release 26.03.2014

I will not hesitate to buy this is it works well! I really hope it does--I thought the Linux version would be vaporware, so even that it is coming out is good news. I choose Linux for reasons other than music production. Which is good, because audio been the biggest frustration for me--it's the only...

Re: Setting Up A DAW in Ubuntu For Beginners

This is great! I'm neither a beginner musician (30+ years) or Linux user (7 years, switched from Mac) but I am still so confused by putting the two together. I was staying at a friend's house last week, and we decided to record a song on a whim. We overdubbed 4 live tracks, a couple MIDI keys and so...

Output device chooser for Gnome-Shell

Not sure if this is the right place for such a trivial tip, but I've found this "Output device chooser on volume menu" extension for GS very handy: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/142/output-device-chooser-on-volume-menu/ It's great for when you are using your machine for non-audio ...

Re: Patchage, Gladish, Claudia etc. : What is the difference

Thank you FalkTX (for this and for everything you do).

I guess I will just need to spend time with them all to see the advantages/disadvantages, and hopefully after using them all, the definitions will become more clear to me.

Re: Patchage, Gladish, Claudia etc. : What is the difference

Small world, I'm not far from there. Just PM'd you. The sessions I've set up so far are pretty remedial, so saving setups hasn't been a feature I've missed yet. That's a plus for Claudia. A plus for Gladish is Laditray, although maybe it can work with the others as well. Very handy to have an unobtr...

Patchage, Gladish, Claudia etc. : What is the difference?

I'm confused newbie exploring KXStudio. There seem to be a bunch of patchbay apps that do the same or almost the same thing. Is there a reason to have all of them installed? Is one more stable or more useful than the others? Thanks.

Re: Gnome Shell : heavy weight DEs are fine for audio?

I was an Xfce user for many years (never was a Gnome fan), but started playing with Gnome-Shell when 3.2 came out. I'm completely addicted to it now. I tried going back to Xfce and I just... can't. You can customize how the shell looks so easily with a little css, add extensions to the desktop throu...
