Re: How parallelised is audio software?

I think the trend will be as it always was. The computer evolves as it does, and the software will be develloped to run on those computers. If multicore would become a problem the software will be rewritten for that situation. I can not tell if it will become a problem. For me it still is not. Meanw...

Re: Yoshimi does not show up

When you have time please try the following: With no other audio or midi applications running, start up qjackctl. Run Yoshimi and in the ALSA tab make sure 'Set as preferred MIDI' has been checked. If not, set it, save and restart Yoshimi. Open 'Connect' in qjackctl and select the ALSA tab. On the ...

Re: Yoshimi does not show up

It did work on the vk. Not on the real one. I checked all the settings and could not get it working. Tried this in the settings of Yoshoma itself and Jack connections without result. With the repository version this all also worked so no benefit here. Did not try the keyboard on that version so i c...

Re: Yoshimi does not show up

Well, that is very puzzling. First of all, using it standalone. Do you get sound if you use its built-in virtual keyboard? If not, check Yoshimi->Settings... Jack/Alsa Audio - depending on what connection type you are using. Once you have that working. Do the same for MIDI. It did work on the vk. N...

Re: Yoshimi does not show up

Installed everything.
The program started and all databases were in it. But still did not show up as plugin, and with this 'later' version i did not even got sound from my keyboard so eventually worse than the repositories version.

It looks like i have to give up until i have upgraded.

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

Humans can generally only hear from about 20hz-20khz In general that is. I know a guy who officially medical tested can hear up to 22K. Doubting the validity of scientific and mathematical data is different from choosing what you will do with that data. There really isn't much doubt on the issue, j...

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

Eventually to me it seems to have some contradiction in it at both sides which keeps it unclear to me. That's a shame. Study harder. :) It is not that much about studying. It is more about the contradiction in those discussions which make it unclear. To me it is strange that the Nyquist theory is u...

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

48 kHz isn't new. DAT worked on 48kHz. 48kHz was the professional standard and 44.1kHz was the consumer standard. It's more to do with the sampling side, the A to D. If you sample a frequency higher than the Nyquist frequency you get aliasing. So everything above the Nyquist frequency has to be fil...

Nice information. Thanks.

I still like this tuning device. Always have it within reach.

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

So the maximum frequency that can be reproduced is half the sampling rate. I know about that but it has always wondered me. Why then is it that hardware, software and electronics designers are stepping into 48kHz nowadays for electronics and other gear from the given reason it gives better result t...

Re: Worse performance when power supply plugged in!

It is possible that your power supply output is not smoothed out properly or is no longer smoothed out, causing a disruptive signal. You could try a different power supply to test this.

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

But every lowpass filter I have (let's take Calf as an example) have a max frequency of 20khz. So when a lowpass filter is all open, when all sound is supposed to run through, when it's practically bypassed - does it nevertheless cut all frequencies from 20000 hz to 48000 hz? I hope so for you. Oth...

Re: Yoshimi does not show up

The solution was already presented to you by folderol, just adding the ppa. If you didn't want to add a ppa to your sources, it's not to hard to download the deb file for your arch from there. I have misted that. I am not that good with linux and do not always understand that deeper stuff. :? I am ...
