Re: Audio playback speed is wrong

Booted up the PC with a Mint USB drive. That defaulted to 44100 and sounded fine. Cool that they have things like Pulseaudio volume there by default. Makes life simple.

If I wanted to report this as a bug, where should I do it? I don't know what 'level' of the system could be at fault.

Re: Audio playback speed is wrong

I've found I can generally get the hardware sample rate to change is I disable/enable the Delta in Envy24. I assume this resets something. Even with this the sound is still distorted as if something is over-driven. I'll double check the levels, but it looked okay. Somewhere in this process I lost th...

Re: Audio playback speed is wrong

The problem was still there the next day and I've not managed to change it as I did yesterday.

Re: Audio playback speed is wrong

This is weird. I just changed the sample rate in Envy24 to 48000 and back to 44100 and it seems to have sorted itself out, for now at least. I thought I tried that yesterday. Ah well, I've learnt a bit about this stuff whilst investigating. I tend to used 44.1 as most audio media is in that rate and...

Re: Audio playback speed is wrong

do you use jackd? Not running Jack for general audio. I only start it when I need it. I think this proves the Delta is running at 48000, but I think I need it at 44100 steve@slarti:~$ cat /proc/asound/card2/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED format: S32_LE subformat: STD channels: 10 rat...

Audio playback speed is wrong

Hi, I've not been visiting here lately due to being busy, but I've just built a new PC and have a strange problem. I went for an AMD A8 6500 CPU on a Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H motherboard with 8GB RAM. I transferred my old M-Audio Delta 66 from the old PC. I'm using the on-board graphics as I don't nee...

Re: Best motherboard/CPU for recording?

I'm looking to build a new PC soon as my current one is about 7 years old and playing up. I've built a few PCs over the years, but haven't kept up with the latest in hardware. My usual policy is to go for something below the cutting edge to get good value for money. Want this one to be reasonably qu...

Re: seeking basic info on making sounds and recording

I was unclear. I don't have pulseaudio installed. :D From screenshots, mudita seems to be the same as envy24control. It's a frontend to alsamixer, so I still have to save with alsactl store? It seems I have sound in, sound out without jack, but I can't record in audacity. There are about 60 "m...

Re: seeking basic info on making sounds and recording

I know there can be some initial frustration with getting this stuff working. I've been there. It took a while to get a grasp on the various concepts and we have been lacking in good guides on getting started. There are a few more now, but you have to find them first. To configure the M-Audio interf...

Re: The Friday Interview

Who's the next victim? ;) There are quite a few suitable candidates right here on the forum and on the Linux audio mailing lists. I'm interested in hearing from a mix of developers and users. Some I'd like to hear from are Julien Claassen (for a blind user's perspective), Dave Phillips and Paul Davi...

Re: German baroque giggin' girl says hello

Welcome Petra. It's always interesting to hear about people using Linux for performance. There must be some potential for things like looping. I'd not heard of http://www.swamiproject.org. I sometimes play around with MIDI. I've used soundfonts via Qsynth+Fluidsynth so far, but not explored too deep...

Re: Hello from Fife, UK

Welcome Jim. Recording levels can be tricky as there are usually several places where they can be set. In this review I see that mic has an internal gain control. Is there a way to control that on Linux? http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun06/articles/samsonc01u.htm Some info at http://vxlabs.com/201...

Re: The "Perfect" Interface Wish List

When I was looking for an interface a couple of years ago I looked into the various USB options, but ended up going for a used Delta 66. It's over 10 years old, but was a good price on ebay. I was also able to get the Omni i/o box, which does what you might need a mixer for whilst taking up less spa...

Re: Anyone able to get the Scarlett 6i6 working with PulseAu

Seems there should be a patch in Linux 3.8 (for the 18i6 at least)
