AV Linux MX Edition 23.2 ISO update released!

Hello LM's! A "quiet" ISO update fixing some teething issues and improving things for new Users, not mandatory at all for existing Users who have things working. *Note this ISO sticks with Ardour 8.2.5 due to the known EOL issues with GTK2 and associated new issues in Ardour 8.4. Im NOT su...

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

So in Debian world this should please everyone...? jackd | pipewire-jack in the control file what about having none of that? OK, then what if the User doesn't have either jackd or pipewire-jack installed (I think pipewire-jack is an opt-in and not installed automatically)? Then Qtractor will instal...

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

qtractor from (my) repos, both OBS and PPA, have this in its debian control files: Build-Depends: libjack-dev | libjack-jackd2-dev Well, that very same line is in the control file of the debian package ( https://salsa.debian.org/multimedia-team/qtractor/-/blob/master/debian/control?ref_type=heads )...

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

Hmmmm. Is PipeWire ready to be used instead of Jack or isn't it yet? It was supposed to clean up the mess wasn't it? As a grumpy old man dragged kicking and screaming into using PipeWire I can indeed tell you that PipeWire 1.0.0+ will work equally as well as JACK if not better for 95.766% of Linux ...

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

So when the runtime dependency on jackd in the debian (and - mind you - the ubuntu package) is a mistake, why not inform the "crackheads" about that? And while you're at it, you could rephrase the documentation (especially in the sources Readme) accordingly. Now reaching for my crackpipe....

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

In the case of AV Linux we are simply backporting upstream Debian's Qtractor packages into MX, so apparently we are inheriting their recommends, I will look into if we can customize the MX Packages (I'm not personally the packager). But this needs to get to upstream Debian for sure.. *EDIT my initia...

Re: Pipewire questions, first time in use ever

Hi, Relating to the OP who I've talked with in other discussions about Audio Distros, I'm seeing the same thing in a quick test.. AV Linux MX Edition comes with PipeWire 1.0.0 (upgradable to 1.0.3 in the MX Test Repo). Pipewire-jack is linked and set to run out of the box and the included DAW's (Ard...

Re: Linux ISOs downloaded. What's next?

@GMaq I can recall the amount of work done, when I was modifying my different Linux systems, so, I know - or at least I can imagine - how much work it needs to create a complete Linux system. I'm not intended to degrade all of this. It's just disappointing trying that much without any success. If I...

Re: How Long Does It Take To Learn The Guitar?

Hmmm, Will be interesting to see what people's goals are.. I've been playing semi-professionally (ie not a full time job, but playing regular paid gigs) for 37 years and of course I've been interested in improving my skills and expanding my musical knowledge but at some point I realized I'm not a sh...

Re: Status of WineASIO on AVL-MXE

Hi, WineASIO broke after Wine-Staging 8.2, and I stopped chasing it and it appears nothing further has been done (although I haven't checked recently). If you can get Wine-Staging 8.2 packages (ie from WineHQ) theoretically the WineASIO Packages in AV Linux 21.3 should still work.. Wineasio 1.2.0 w...

Re: Linux ISOs downloaded. What's next?

To clarify.. For 90% of people WifI on AVL-MXE is not a problem, for those rare cases it is an issue a single document is provided on the Desktop, since I was answering your post from a different machine without that exact file on the Desktop I referred to it as a "Wifi Readme" as a genera...

Re: Carla and yabridge clashing

You can sync with a yabridgectl sync --prune option to clean out old outdated cruft in the yabridge VST folders if you have stale so-files from a previous version..

In ugly old AV Linux  the YADbridge utility does this with "Sync Plugins (Clean)"

Re: CALF plugins?

Also, the issue here isn't that much related to end of life of GTK2, but the wrong choice done by the initial LV2 development to support, yes, even force the use of, mainstream toolkits for plugin UI's. Time tell that this leads to a lot of trouble for users and developers. JUst a side note: ardour...

Re: Your first DAW !

Voyetra/Turtle Beach Digital Orchestrator was my first DAW circa 1995, like Largos I later converted to Cubase VST 3.7 (haha printer port dongles for both Cubase and some of the better Steinberg Plugins, a drooping chain of stacked dongles sagging off the tower's printer port..  ). After...
