Re: Studio monitors

When you connect the focus, you disable the onboard sound of your pc. (I would not mind being wrong on this) If not a 3.5mm extension cord should solve all. :) Not necessarily - that's where Jack (or Pipewire) come in, with tools like Cadence or QJackCtl you can wire things like you'd like to have ...

Re: Studio monitors

These Adam Monitors are really nice - together with some Focal ,Neumann, and Genelec the same size they were the best I've heard so far. About the headset: I don't think you could use the microphone even with a splitter - those small electret mikes do not take 48V phantom power like "real"...

A bad experience can turn someone against Pipewire. We don’t want that. But we don’t want people to be afraid of the new technology either. I've tried PW very successfully on Arch, so when Debian Bookworm will default to it next year, I won't be afraid. Thanks for your good tips, Audiojunkie :)

[...] i tihnk i wanbt to try a config with pipewire, i read something and it seems more promising. [...] Pipewire, indeed, seems to be the ideal one-stop solution to replace all the various audio servers. However, AFAIK one needs a very recent distro to obtain a recent version of PW because the &qu...

Look for "USB class compliant". If it doesn't need a driver on Macs and their CoreAudio, you're probably good with Linux.

My Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen) runs and sounds perfectly.

In Debian Bullseye and with Jack, Pulse, and Alsa I have something similar to you (using Sonarworks instead of the LSP-PEQ): https://www.flickr.com/photos/wjlonien/52537787319/ I load that setup automatically during login, using Claudia as a Ladish frontend: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wjlonien/52...

Re: Recently switched away from the *buntus

[completely off topic, sorry couldn't help myself] A complete Linux family? Wow! Some of my friends who work in IT don't even have experience w/ Linux at work or study. Let alone their family. And you're an all Debian family. What do you think of people (who start with Linux) who use "exotic&q...

Re: Recently switched away from the *buntus

On my new machine I have Debian only, the old one had Arch and Debian - so I could try Pipewire and all the latest stuff on one distro, but still have my stable one for normal "work" (I mean music, photography, and so on). It's Debian stable with backports - that kernel 6.x helps with the ...

Re: Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

Last time I've looked into it (with some RC of 37 or so) I've found it a bit messy. They include the good stuff like Carla, Cadence, and everything - but then run on Pipewire by default? I've had good experiences with Pipewire on Arch, like with Carla, Cadence et al on Debian, so I decided to stay a...

Re: vanilla Kubuntu 22.10, PipeWire and JACK

Hi cabsi, I had this running on Arch for a while, and it worked great for me. Arch also has a good Wiki page about it, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire In general, if you add/install packages like pw-jack, pw-alsa, and pw-pulseaudio (or so; forgot), the pipewire will emulate all these a...

Re: Kx as a distrib is over - what next for ubuntu users?

FYI: I just built a new machine, installed Debian stable (although with a kernel from backports), and the kx.studio repositories are just doing fine. No issues at all.

Re: AMD Ryzen 7000 series (Zen4, AM5) and Linux compatebility

As to Zen 3, I've built my wife a PC with the Ryzen 7 5700G earlier this year, and it runs perfectly. Her OS of choice is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and until that was finished we ran 21.10 on it. which was almost as good (I think Bluetooth was still having a few problems with older kernels). Note that both ...
