Re: Xruns with low DSP & CPU loads?

While we're speculating, maybe check on the CPU governor, and make sure it's set to "performance", to have the CPU running at full speed. It's often set to "powersave" by default, especially on laptops. This is the Right Thing To Do in most circumstances, but music production isn...

Re: RME Hammerfall 9632 Help

What I have no experience with is how to get audio in and out of the RME interface. I just purchased a Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic 8 channel mic preamp. It's got ADAT in and out. I'm planning on connecting that via lightpipe to handle my inputs. What I'm not sure about is if I connect my stu...

Re: What DAW do you use?

I'm Ardour-only at the moment. I'd use LMMS for sample-looping, because it's much better suited to that task, but it's locked to 44.1KHz and 2 output channels. Apparently I should have read the manual more carefully. I grepped the lmms source-code for "44.1" to see if I could work on this...

Re: Introducing the New RME Fireface UCX II

Code: Select all

bbfpromix
handles mixing functions and enabling/disabling phantom power for the Babyface; it's only the more advanced features that it can't control.
It's possible that it could do the same for this model, with minor enhancements.

Re: Introducing the New RME Fireface UCX II

The only decent option is for RME to start supporting Linux-side users properly. There are certainly buyers for these devices among the Linux people as well. There is a completely incomprehensible attitude today to ignore the Linux side. Hopefully this situation will change. It’s really frustrating...

Re: Introducing the New RME Fireface UCX II

Nice! I just wish they'd released it a few months ago, before I got a Babyface, because this is what I was actually looking for. First world problems, and all that :) As for control software, bbfpromix has been good enough for my purposes with the Babyface - I use it as an interface, not an effects ...

Re: What Linux Distribution should I put on my other hard drive partion?

Ubuntu's still a good choice for getting your feet wet. The question of what you'll use it for is an important one, as some distributions are better suited to some tasks. Is there anybody in your personal or work life who uses Linux, and who you'd call on for help? If so, it'll be easier for them to...

Re: Vember Audio open sourced Short Ciruit sampler on the Surge team 2-do list!

I'm willing to see what I can add in my spare time.

Disclaimers: I'm not brilliant, and I've never worked in C before, never mind C++ (more of a CL and reluctantly python guy), but it looks like the kind of sampler I'd like to be able to use.

Re: Ardour Export

Different sample rates could easily be the problem. Are you working in 44.1KHz and exporting to 48KHz?

Re: Reaper MIDI vs. Mixbus MIDI

I'm not a fan of Mixbus (mainly due to them disabling some routing capability in order to make their business model work) Please explain. I've used Mixbus for a number of years and never heard this before. It's been a while since I looked into it but from the email conversation I had with them thes...

Mixbus on Nixos - how to install

How to install Mixbus 32C on Nixos - the hacky workaround. This is a braindump of how I got this to work - part HOWTO, and part detective story. There's a better way of doing all this, but you need to know what needs doing before you can find the better way. It probably also works for regular Mixbus...

Re: trying to find Linux daily driver

If you're serious about the "challenge" part, try Nixos. I love it because it gives me predictability about what's installed, repeatability when I set up a new machine, and it eliminates cruft. It's just not something I normally recommend, because there's a heck of a learning curve involve...

Re: Hi from Melbourne, Australia

Thanks for the welcome! I feel more like an eternal n00b with Linux audio rather than experienced though, after being awed by some other contributors' knowledge. :? :D I'm particularly impressed by the devs who code this stuff and imagine they must have studied at the Unseen University to learn the...
