Re: syncing loops
Dave Phillips wrote a two-part article called "Loop-based Music Composition With Linux" a few years ago for Linux Journal. It might be a little dated now, but it's still a good read. The second article goes into time-stretching. I've linked to it below, hope that it helps. http://www.linux...

Re: Possible PulseAudio sighting
Thanks guys, Whistle Solo Studios is now PulseAudio free. Feels good to now have control over what is reaching my speakers.

Re: Did you ever create a nasty audio feedback loop?
Congratulations, creating a feedback loop in JACK is a right of passage. I don't think it will harm your computer per see, but it might not be the best thing for your speakers. Also, I have it on good word that feedback is very capable of turning an innie belly-button into an outie so use it wisely!

Possible PulseAudio sighting
So I hadn't checked out Ubuntu Studio for a while, and thought that I'd see how it's coming along. After installing UbuStu, I uninstalled PulseAudio. One day, however, I realized that historically non-Jack-aware programs like Adobe Flash are still coming in loud and clear over top of the Jack server...

Re: Fluxbox
I also fired up fluxbox to see what all the fuss was about. Here's some stats:
Memory Usage by WM (In UbuStu, according to htop)
Gnome 24.3407%
Fluxbox 14.4016%
Fluxbox appears to be nearly twice as efficient as Gnome. Go fluxbox.

Re: Lowest frame period with a Audigy 2??
I've never heard of there being a hard limit for an Audigy 2, but I never could get one below 128 either. QJackCtrl would always puke out on initiation at 64. If you're still trying to get your latency down though, make sure to set your sample rate to 4800. Should help to lower latency and make your...

Re: Musix 2.0
I've run Musix a few times over the years, and have been pretty impressed. Compared to UbuStu or 64Studio, it has a much deeper package selection (offering a number of audio apps that I haven't seen elsewhere). It also seems to put more emphasis on minimalism, offering a number of light-weight windo...

Re: Dyne:bolic Goes Dormant
OK, so I may have jumped the gun. Dyne:bolic has been resurrected on Distrowatch (although the distro itself hasn't been updated as far as I can see). Here's to hoping that Distrowatch knows something that we don't. Also, I'm no mac expert SixFingers, but Klaatu from the Bad Apples Podcast is all ab...

Dyne:bolic Goes Dormant
The excellent audio-visual LiveCD distribution that is Dyne:bolic has officially been listed on DistroWatch as dormant. Although still available, the distribution has not been updated since its December 2007 2.5.2 release. Whether or not the new DistroWatch designation signals the end of the vernera...

Thanks DioXide, I probably have over thought this. Still trying to shake off the horrible things that Windows did to me.

Is a real-time kernel a security risk?
Coming from a windows background, my DAW never had an internet connection. Fine-tuning a windows box=stripping out anti-virus software=one extremely vulnerable system. After installing Linux, I connected my box to the internet and have enjoyed being free of many of the security trappings of windows....

Hey howdy from the Great Basin Desert
Glad to be on board with all y'all Linux Musicians. I enjoy taping, editing, and listening to live recordings and currently play guitar, write, and sing for a local garage band. On the side, I'm also learning to play the musical saw (to the horror of my neighborhood dogs). I'm fairly new to Linux (o...

Love the idea. I've always been surprised by how few audio forums there are to showcase Linux related audio. Best of luck.
