Re: Why Guitarix factory presets so awful and loud??
Yes, tramp, I'm aware and also very grateful! I think your replies here were all within reason. My post today was not directed toward you at all. I don't happen to agree with the idea that demonstrating significant signal boost is appropriate (it's trivial to merely amplify a signal and isn't what m...

Re: Why Guitarix factory presets so awful and loud??
Please everyone, stick to a constructive middle-ground in this discussion. We don't need either hyperbolic ad hominem (the presets are deserving of criticism but there's no need to make it personal about the authors of the presets) or dismissive defensiveness (the various versions of replies that us...

Re: Why Guitarix factory presets so awful and loud??
:welcome: Remember: Each converter in the audio/MIDI interfaces is different, each speaker is different and each room sounds different. Ideally Audiophil is almost neutral, but who has that? Make your own presets and share them. Surely you wouldn't think the poster you're replying to believes that ...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
Okay, I guess there's three possibilities for no-longer-KXStudio packaged stuff: 1. Orphaned (can identify those easily) 2. Moved to the meta kxstudio-recommended… packages (also easy enough to identify) 3. Neither I don't know how to get a list of number 3. That's specifically packages that *are* a...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
I'm happy to say that the upgrade is all working for me. However, going forward, I am unclear about the smoothest way to clear out no-longer-supported stuff that has the blocking-style version numbers from old stuff. If I find out that a package is stuck, I think I can do this: 1. Remove package 2. ...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
My worry is only that I may have had a system with various tools and things installed that was optimized nicely and then after the switch over (or in future installs) I didn't note that I really want something particular installed. Of course, if it's an app, I will remember about it if I think "...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
nice, that dry-run thing is new to me. Anyway, I do regularly run autoremove, thus it *should* capture only the changes after I switch repos (but it will still be a massive thing, so I'll want to be extra careful!

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
[...] UPDATE: The commands I did before to check what came from KXStudio repos somehow missed Audacity, Mixxx, and Sooperlooper among others. Either those weren't coming from KXStudio or something was missing in the command given earlier in this topic. You sure that Audacity depends on KXStudio? Th...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
Okay, I got the list of currently-installed stuff that came from the older KXStudio repos… But what's the best way to get a list of packages that meet these qualifications: - came from other sources (not KXStudio repos) - were set to be installed as a direct dependency on KXStudio meta packages - ar...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
Thanks! I haven't changed the repos yet, so I'll go with that aptitude instruction. I think that might make sense to be added to the FAQ on the KXStudio website and/or other relevant news places about the new repos. EDIT: I happened to notice also that there were obsolete installs that seem to be KX...

Re: New KXStudio Repositories
So, trusting that the new repos (which remove old) won't remove any of the installed packages, what's the process of then handling them? I understand I can manually figure out how to update (removing the existing installs, get updates however) stuff that's no longer in the new repos. But what's the ...

Re: Crackles with UMC404HD
I'm on low-latency kernel. Anyway, it's clearly nothing at all on my end. I literally have two units to test now, and my friend's unit simply works, while mine is crackly. We're talking about literally just swapping the two on my exact same computer. It's was just a bum unit all along.

Re: Crackles with UMC404HD
UPDATE: My friend got the same unit, and his doesn't crackle! Tested with my system. I just had a bad unit all along!! Just maybe a firmware update will help or something, but maybe it needs repair. Anyway, this isn't an issue overall, just I have a bad case. Ugh. I wish I'd considered the possibili...

Re: Crackles with UMC404HD
I was tempted to test again (I have much updated setup otherwise), and I still have the interface. But I'm just usually using my Focusrite now and have not been lately needing all 4 channels and not trying the UMC. I hope it will work well when I get around to trying it again. It's not my priority r...

Re: transition everything to Discourse
The CSS pixel is a crazy thing, but not really related to device pixels exactly. I don't really get it and only skimmed this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27382331/how-a-css-pixel-size-is-calculated Anyway, this is far from the worst way that web standards are done weirdly/wrong or are abused...
