Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

I have just compiled hydrogen stable from source and got it to work with jack and then alsa (for some reason my initial attempt with alsa failed but it worked after running it with Jack*). You could not run much else, but this can turn the Pi into a stand alone drum machine with just internal sound....

Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

@ j_e_f_f_g Sorry - at the moment I am just after programmed beats. (I do have Midi drum pads & (perhaps more interesting) an old Casio Digital Guitar, so I might give your software a try at some stage but at the moment I have other fish to fry. It might also provide a lighter drum synth than Hy...

Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

I can run hydrogen with the on board audio using Qjackctl or Alsa. If you run 'top' you will see that there is plenty of CPU & RAM still available. If you start Hydrogen from a terminal either way there are loads of errors. I do not know enough to be able to use them constructively. I did try sp...

Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

@Autostatic: thankyou (I have a feeling I am going to be saying that a lot). The other alternative I might try is to try a sequencer such as Seq24 or non with fluidsynth. It is such a shame to be so close with Hydrogen. I wonder if it could be compiled in some way with unwanted features disabled to ...

Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

@ Shadow_7 - what I did was buy a powered hub that could also power the pi from one of its usb sockets, this made getting a hub effectively cheaper because you do not have to buy a psu. You lose a usb port on the pi connecting the hub &the one on the hub powering the pi, so you end up with four ...

Re: Raspberry Pi and music production

Hi Just got my Pi up and running with Raspian & Autostatics repo added (thankyou sir :D ). At the moment just trying to get Hydrogen working with the internal sound, It plays slowly & the notes sound too low pitched to me. I have tried with Alsa & Jack & tried changing Hydrogen's sam...

Re: help with small studio setup - taking it to a higher lev

I do not have all your answers but I have one hint - noise gates, hardware or software. When the sound gets below a certain level the gate closes and you have silence. This is a great way to filter out any hiss, hum, background noise etc.

Does any one know of a good Jamin tutorial?

I am using crunchbang, which is configured debian and has a great community. Also handy that there is an rt kernel in the repos.

Re: USB Audio Interface: Very specific requirements

My Alesis IO2 express works 'out of the box' with Linux. It has two balanced line mic inputs with phantom power and it has headphone monitoring. It records at 48khz 24 bit and currently retails for around £80. It has midi in/out but I have yet to use it.

Map mixer faders to QWERTY keyboard

Hi
I wondered if there was ever any way to map mixer faders in Ardour or muse to a computer keyboard, so, for example A/Z S/X etc would be the up/down controls.

thanks

Would be great if someone could make a plug in of AT1 - seems to be the best Linux auto tuner around but the stand alone cannot record any settings.

I have found hydrogen can get sulky when used with ardour if you click play in hydrogen rather than ardour.

Re: Hydrogen for sale on Ebay!?

I hate to say, but is this any different from the firms who sell distro CD's? I used to use them back in dial-up days (I still have my very first knoppix CD). It has never been illegal to sell open source software on physical medium, for example Red Enterprise Linux. You are obliged by the GPL to pr...
