Once you have jack running then make sure that VLC is using jack as an output or check that alsa and/or pulseaudio bridges are working in cadence.

Are any of the windows ones particularly special? I don't bother too much with windows plugins unless they are really exceptional.

Is the audio stuff in aur updated regularly? I was just checking a few packages and I noticed that EQ10Q is out of date.
I'm thinking about going back to an arch based distro and I remember the audio packages in aur were pretty slow to get updated, if they weren't more or less abandoned.

A significant part of the original question was that I didn't want to mess with system files. And it is not that trivial to remove the packaged zynaddsubfx, I use kxstudio repos and removing this particular package is problematic because of the meta packages the repo uses.

How do I try this new gui with my current install of zynaddsubfx? I had that installed with my package manager and I don't particularly want to run the install script to potentially mess with package manager files.

Is the firewire device recognized by the system? I'm no expert but it looks like it can't find the device you have chosen to use.
