Re: Studio 13.37 is out!
Think about it this way: if you called a computer tech to come over to your house, and do an hour of work on your computer, how much would he charge you? Thirty dollars? Well Studio 13.37 took months of full-time compiling and hacking. All of the programs are compiled against the realtime kernel, e...

Re: New DSSI synthesizer, check it out
Yes, 4.2 is a year or so old, can't quite remember!
I'll have a look at those packages, but it will be a couple of days before I get a chance now.
I can normally run jack as myself, I was just trying different things to try and get the host to start without error.

Re: New DSSI synthesizer, check it out
I've tried it from within Renoise (v2.6) - it appears in the list of DSSI instruments, but when selecting it there is no output, and when pressing the 'ext editor' button in Renoise (which should bring up the GUI) nothing happens. I also tried the jack-dssi-host and it wouldn't start from there eith...

Thanks, I look forward to trying it out.
Just out of curiousity, were the optimizations in your API, or just in this particular plugin?

Re: Which Laptop do you use
Ok, here's my Jack settings: Frames/Period :256 Sample Rate: 44100 Periods Buffer: 3 Port Max: 256 Timeout: 2000 Start Delay: 2 Realtime is checked (everyting else is unchecked) All other settings are at Default. My interface is a Lexicon Omega (USB). I've always considered these fairly conservative...

Re: Which Laptop do you use
I did adjust the swappiness recently, the real time config script highlighted that - everything in the checklist comes up green :) I have been thinking of using an external drive, but I'm starting to think my problems may be something else - I tend to get xruns/drop outs when softsynths are first in...

Re: Which Laptop do you use
Thanks for the info guys. I'm wondering if some the problems with my laptop stem from the 5400 rpm drive.
ideally I'd like to use a desktop but don't have the space, but I'm seriously considering getting a new laptop...

Which Laptop do you use
I'd like to know who uses a laptop, and how well the model you use works. I use a Dell Inspiron 1525 running AV Linux 4.2 - the Dell is not that good :( I continually struggle to get decent performance out of it. Some days it's fine, others days it gives me xrun hell. My previous laptop was trodden ...

Re: Renoise 2.6 with DSSI & 64-bit Linux support
There's no need to apologise for using commercial software - show me any free tracker/DAW/Sequencer as polished and reliable as Renoise. I've been using it for about 2 years now and have been very pleased with it. At least now with the DSSI support you can use a bit more 'free' software with it a bi...

Re: will we lose our apps to Mac and Windows eventually??
I'm happy to donate to projects - lets face it, this is a very specialised area, and if someone is trying to make a living off it (which must be hard), but at the same time making available software that would otherwise cost a lot of money, then why not? Not every project asks for donations of cours...

Re: AV Linux 4.0 'Black n' Blue' Released!
It is very good - the pops & clicks I was getting under Ubuntu Studio went away when I migrated to AV Linux 3.1 without any tweaking.PatS wrote: Haven't done much with AV yet but it seems extremely good especially if you're looking for a ready-to-go system.

Re: freeverb3
The plugin is indeed a true native Linux VST, and of course it needs a compliant host. Other than JOST there's QTractor and energyXT2. I plan to build the latest QTractor today, will test it for plugin support, especially native Linux VST and LV2. Best, dp And Renoise, if you don't mind non-free st...

Re: freeverb3
Hybridreverb2 is not true native linux because it needs jost as a host and through jost, cpu screams for mercy :( Are you sure about that? I've not seen that mentioned elsewhere. Dave Philips mentions it is a native VST in his article http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/gifting-season-linux-audio-h...
