Re: how do you record your bass guitar?

It's always a question of whether to DI or amp (mic) it. 1) Most styles of music have the bass field at the back, above, and totally devoid of reverberation. 2) There is only so much to shape on low frequencies, given the fact that Tom, Dick, and Harry all tag along the 62.5 and 125 pair of octaves....

Re: Do you have a distro for 'studio' and one for 'desktop'?

Before losing my laptop's hard disk and a lot of my important work for some of which I would've gotten paid (I'm lazy so I don't back up much), before being in a pathetic state (using Linux on an 8GB flash drive and using Windows and Macs more than ever like when I was a kid playing the first Rainbo...

Re: Headphone analysis : choose the right one!

Are there "good" monitoring earphones? In-ear or otherwise..i feel really uneasy after about half an hour with those huge-ass headphones. There's no pain (with the mid-range sennheiser ones) but just irritation around the ear, and of course concentrated humidity

[ML][Lmms-users] LMMS 0.4.0 Alpha

... after months of hard work we're proud to announce the availability of LMMS 0.4.0 Alpha, the Qt4-based successor of the 0.3.x-series. Thanks to all who helped making up this release! Fundamental changes happened, resulting in a clean core-design, much better performance, more stability, platform...

Nope. Flash - no good  I still think screencast is the best. For now we can put up an embedded player for ogv, and when the time comes an HTML <video> tag! And we have SVG progressing also..

TuxGuitar with JACK and Software Synthesizers

To be expanded and migrated to wiki, short of time so I'm jotting it down here. TuxGuitar output to JACK Since TuxGuitar has had ALSA and other output support via plug-ins, we can basically use any softsynth that has a MIDI input port as the output device. You connect TuxGuitar to that port of the s...

Hah I see where you're coming from. Just look at KDE. Aaron Seigo simply says, as far as I can recall, that it's a matter of marketing or somewhere along those lines. Make your product available for a larger mass - that has always been a good strategy. It's not about "hey you don't like me why ...

hey funkmuscle good to see you here. I've seen your post on the Arch BBS but I'll reply here. I don't use Rosegarden so I still have the one from [extra] which is 4.1.6.1, and it does work. I'll install the latest and check it out. I assume the problem might be distro-specific, in which case you may...

You mean a hardware mixer? Well, those old (vintage? naah..) and cheap ones do a pretty good job..but uhh, software mixing is quite efficient these days so you may not want to worry about that. You can of course get a BOSS or <model> equalizer pedal to smooth things out..

Posting in Relevant Sections

Do we post threads regarding Linux audio software in Recorders & Sequencers, and Note Editors? The "Linux distributions & other software" seem to imply, well, "other" software as in non-audio, but it can be for those that don't fit in the 2 other sections. If so, I sugges...
