Re: best distro for pro studio?

Just kidding - couldn't help it  Anyway, yeah, UNIX-based, UNIX-like, then shouldn't they all be as awesome as each other? Or is Mac OS X really awesome? I guess not. It's just that its (mostly-)proprietary userland is tightly integrated, and Apple has made sure to pay attention to that integra...

Re: Crossing the Arch

Wow, I think some of you have actually reached the end of the Arched passageway. Enjoy the stay! Anyway, I've only read the first and last page of this thread, but according to funkmuscle there have been some complaints about how the ArchAudio repos are never up-to-date and that apparently is a show...

Re: Sound librarian needed

I'm in dire need of exactly the same solution. Sound for film has given a major bump to the size of my ~/Audio folder, and I have yet to back up 10 other commercial DVDs. Pretty soon I'm going to have a separate external disk from the looks of it, but as I see it now KDE really chokes upon indexing ...

And also a minimalistic environment leaves less room for errors, I think that's the more crucial aspect when it comes to live.

Re: Beat Machine Pro and LMMS????

Hah..seriously, aside from the legalities which may or may not work against such "business plans", these guys need to realise how things roll in FOSSdom before even deploying a commercial idea. If this goes on, I suggest you put up a big sign on frontpage reading, "We know what you're...

Re: Beat Machine Pro and LMMS????

I've said it in the list and I'll say it here - this is being handled too improfessionally. (1) This is a bundle (2) The author has no bad intentions edit: (3) The author may not fully understand the community It is totally fine to bundle GPL software and sell it. The only other requirement is that ...

Re: Some basics for recording with a mixer?

Ahh..good ol' mixers. 1) Master Fader at 0dB You should never touch this one. 2) Trim/Gain Pot This comes before the channel fader, and will determine the amount of raw signal going in. Should start out with a humble amount. A general equation to follow is inverse proportion to the fader. Important ...

Re: Use your filemanager for importing files in Ardour/ qtractor

I suppose with those apps that are available for Linux this is fairly safe practice, but do remember that there are others that trigger different functions depending on how a file was brought in to the session. For instance, Pro Tools links the files if it's a drag-n-drop action - they're not copied.

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Actually 64Studio is not bad for a stable platform. I'd also consider Sidux. The only problem with the popular distros out there is that they're more confusing than even Gentoo when it comes to package maintenance. During my early Linux days, the first thing that scared me were the various split pac...
