Re: Merging AES67 ALSA driver

Merging is now part of Neumann. More correctly Sennheiser bought Neumann in 1991, and Merging last year. The MT48 interface is based on the Merging Anubis. The MT48 manual can be downloaded on this page . The way they expect people to use it is as a USB interface. In the manual there is the usual &q...

Re: Instabilities using Rosegarden, Gen-Midi (qsynth) & Yoshimi-Standalone

You seem pretty relentless in your quest to redefine the English language. "Uncommanded"? Obviously they're commanded, just not in the way you want.

Is there an event list in Rosegarden? This will show all MIDI events and you may be able to track down where the commands are coming from.

Re: USB audio interfaces mute when Ubuntu Studio 22.04 reboots - weird

If the cards have no controls, then the problem seems to be that a checkbox doesn't stay ticked in System Settings. It's telling that you said normal Ubuntu doesn't have this problem. It sounds like a bug/misconfiguration in Ubuntu Studio. One possibility is to try AVLinux as a comparison. It would ...

Re: USB audio interfaces mute when Ubuntu Studio 22.04 reboots - weird

Did you try Loki's suggestion of nrestore ? If ALSA doesn't have a mute control for this card, it could be this 'System Settings' that's muting it. It seems logical that it's getting muted somewhere other than ALSA. I'm not familiar with Ubuntu Studio, but is there some way to configure System Setti...

Re: Help me understand these QjackCtl errors?

They're not errors as such. Conceivably JACK could be started before QjackCtl, so QjackCtl tries to connect to JACK when it's launched. If JACK isn't started, those are the messages. If QjackCtl has been set to start JACK when it's launched, you'll get those messages, then the JACK startup messages.

Re: USB audio interfaces mute when Ubuntu Studio 22.04 reboots - weird

Thank you Erlkönig. For JACK I do load the cards with their names, such as zita-j2a -d hw:CODEC -r 48000 -p 256 -n 2 (Pity that QjackCtl does not display those names in Graph . . . ) It is possible to name a zita-j2a client. Use -j then the name you want. For the muting thing there's amixer which c...

Re: USB audio interfaces mute when Ubuntu Studio 22.04 reboots - weird

If I understand correctly your setup is working by using the alsactl script from QJackCtl?

What is the setup you're using at the moment? If you have two USB soundcards and two instances of Stereo Tool, are you using two instances of JACK?

Re: USB audio interfaces mute when Ubuntu Studio 22.04 reboots - weird

This may be because the cards get a different index -- a different card number -- on each reboot. The default state for alsamixer is to load up in a muted state. Questionable, perhaps. If the card has a new number, it seems like a new card, and starts up muted. There is a way to set a fixed index fo...

Re: what sequencer to teach my kid?

There's no need to. The terms kind of have become interchangeable, as they're all DAWs now, and do MIDI and audio. :D

My point is that pressing record on a tape machine used to be pretty easy, and a computer can be used in that way, without a need to get into all the other bells and whistles yet.

Re: what sequencer to teach my kid?

If your son plays traditional instruments, then it's not really a sequencer that's going to be useful. What would be more useful would be using the computer as a multitrack tape machine equivalent. I think the concepts are important at the start, rather than knowing all the details of a particular p...

It's the driver that's the difficult bit. Linux developers seem pretty good at reverse engineering control panels that run in user space. Re: Small problem with Mixbus 32C with AvLinux MXE

I have an AMD processor, so I don't know the details of an Intel BIOS. I would think if you make the maximum C state 1, then the processor will run as fast as it can while staying within its thermal limits. In other words the processor will run at a fixed speed, limited by cooling. I had a look at t...

Re: Testing is Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 ok?

No, not really. It's a reason not to use Windows. ... Software like that might need some sort of driver to access the innards of the hardware and that might not work in the next version of Windows. Maybe not even in Linux if you have to compile from source code (my experience). ... It's not about wh...
