Re: New guy here and already struggling with Jack!

I'm not saying that native applications are bad, in fact I agree they are preferable.

My own experience was of GR running perfectly well even at 64 frames 2 periods on my system. Was really just a FYI to the OP. YMMW and all that :)

Re: New guy here and already struggling with Jack!

It will consume too much CPU due to system call translation and other complications connected with tricking a Windows application to run on Linux. I think this is wrong! Have you tried it yourself? IME there is no problem to run an instance of GR at low latency on a modern system. Yes windows softw...

Re: Public Money, Public Code

Please excuse my cynicism, but aren't honest & politician oxymorons?

Though yes, to me it seems evident that code developed with tax payers money ought to be public domain!

Re: New guy here and already struggling with Jack!

Another cool thing is that you can even run GR on linux :) For instance you could run it stand alone with wine/wineasio/jack, or as a plugin in some DAW using a wrapper (like LinVst). Depending on what version you have available it might more or less of a PITA to install and get up and running thoug...

Re: Use KDE for audio stuff?

You might also want to turn off SMT (hyper threading). I've thought that it wasn't a problem on my i7, but it can cause xruns in some situations. I've noticed that the DSP load goes up while running a CPU heavy program in the background while reaper is running. That problem goes away when I disable ...

Re: Use KDE for audio stuff?

IIRC C0 & C1 states are ok, I don't think you should let it go below that. I don't think CPU speed is related in any way to the CPU halting. The kernel documentation contains some relevant information and explains this interface way better than I can do :) https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/...

Re: AV Linux 2019.4.10 Released!

FYI, there is no need to patch the -rt kernel for nvidia anymore. Just the nvidia driver so that it can build the kernel modules :) I've ran nvidia with unpatched rt kernel for a few months now, with no sign of the original issue (desktop hanging).

Re: Use KDE for audio stuff?

Not really. I don't think this device is available on all CPUs, but basically you are telling it that you don't want it to go into any deeper C state that will impact on thread scheduling. Of course it might make your cpu run hotter and use more battery. You could experiment with higher values to se...

Re: Use KDE for audio stuff?

jack has a realtime priority, that is why one has to edit limits.conf and use the audio group and stuff like that. I had thought that the realtime-kernel would priorize threads with a realtime-priority even higher. So I understand now that it is still important do turn off non-audio stuff. Well, no...

Re: anybody having problems with latest linux-rt and KDE?

@merlyn I don't think that is related. What used to happen without the patch is that the GUI would hang after a few minutes, while the underlying system would still run, respond to network requests, etc. I've removed it on both linux-rt and linux-rt-lts and have seen no signs of nvidia hanging on my...

Re: Use KDE for audio stuff?

a) Shouldn't using the rt-kernel ensure that "normal" stuff doesn't get in the way of audio-stuff? That, even if KDE is doing something, this should be postphoned until the audio is processed? FWIW, the rt patch is mainly concerned with one thing, and that is lowering the kernel schedulin...

Re: anybody having problems with latest linux-rt and KDE?

Hmm, I use KDE on nvidia right now and haven't had any graphics related issues. I have had a mouse issue with the scroll wheel being a bit wonky for the last few weeks, but that was fixed after updating the system yesterday. Personally I'm not aware of any specific problems with 5.0.x-rt. Since I ma...

Re: Cut Through Recordings Plug-ins available in LV2 Format

I also fail to understand the hostility towards closed software.. IMO the more software we have available on linux, the better, be that libre, closed, free or pay. I quote: https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=271 "Our mission is to facilitate discussion, learning, and discovery ...

Jack Winter: That's exactly how I got Serum to work, I disabled d2d2 for Reaper and it worked! Really good thing you experienced gurus help us out! :D There are so much detail buried in Wine.
