Behringer makes bad sounding gear that breaks quickly. That's why it's so cheap. I'd contest this. It may be true in many cases, but we use an X32 mixer which we are dearly in love with. What does cat /proc/asound/cards say?
You can use the name of the card (inside of brackets) instead of the index number, like hw:Intel or hw:USB.

Reaper has one in development which seems well liked by its users.
Reaper is windows/osx, but there is work being done to port it to linux, and there is a prerelease that is working quite well now days.
