Re: UR22mkII quirks?

I guess none of that is completely accurate. I tracked down a few issues with the speaker wires. Provided by the company that sold me the $1,500.00 speakers. And what I thought was clipping was the poorly connected right speaker. I still seem to need to lower the output for the best sound, but aroun...

Re: QJackctl freezes on stop with TASCAM US-122

I've had trouble with jackdbus on my RPi 3B+. After a recent update it has been freezing hourly. I have to kill -9 it to regain function without a reboot. The usual jack_control methods are non-functional until the kill. Although I just updated today with a new kernel, so here's hoping it's fixed no...

Re: Why is MIDI so broken in Linux?

rosegarden is more midi - centric. You'd need stuff like fluidsynth if you don't have midi output devices to generate the sounds that midi events trigger. Things like qsynth for the GUI front end to fluidsynth. Hyrdrogen and a few other options besides fluidsynth, like timidity. Some distros don't c...

Re: The new Raspberry PI 3B+ audio-related review

It seems that the june update makes jackdbus less stable. It's hanging pretty consistently on an hourly basis. It was pretty stable back in april, but I applied updates in july. Doing a fresh install didn't fix that quirk. It's really quite annoying, especially since I've put the audio portion on it...

Re: studio monitors

I had a pair of M-Audio Bx8's, which I got used from craigslist. They were good and really let me know just how much handling and wind noise I was recording. I sold them though, as 225W x2 plus computers and other things on one plug was an issue. Now I got mini maggies and a 150W stereo. Not that gr...

Re: The new Raspberry PI 3B+ audio-related review

I have a 3B+. I use it as a pulseaudio server to a usb interface. Currently the steinberg (yamaha) ur22mkII. It's a pulse over jackd setup. Unfortunately it's still not fast enough to do the calf 30 band eq plugin. It'll kind of do the 20 band one, but it gets unstable-ish in less than a day. I just...

UR22mkII quirks?

So I've been using the steinberg ur22mkII a month-ish or more. I got some minnie maggies when I got this interface. I'm still using an old panasonic RX-540 to drive them. Pretty much all of the levels are controlled by knobs on the device (ur22mkII). With a knob to mix the inputs with the output (wo...

Re: Using Qjackctl with jackd and pulseaudio

I've gotten a bit exotic with multiple machines. On the machine with the good soundcard connected to the good speakers I have a pulse over jack setup. Mostly the same as it has been for a good while, except jackd2 now (jackdbus). Setup as follows based on #3 of the guide. http://jackaudio.org/faq/pu...

Re: HOWTO: REQUEST

Command Line based EQ for jackDBus? I tend to run a pulseaudio over jack setup when I get interested in audio. Although I've known of it for a while, I recently tried a networked pulseaudio setup. And I'm kind of liking it. Is there a command line EQ option like calf's 32 band, jackEQ, or nyquists n...

Re: First in a series of LMMS and ZynAddSubFX videotutorials

I know it's been a while. But to expand on my old way, here's my new way of screen capture. avconv -f alsa -i default -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r:v 5 -draw_mouse 1 -i :0.0+0,0 \ -aspect 16:9 -pix_fmt yuv444p -async 1 -r:v 5 \ -codec:a pcm_s16le -codec:v libx264 -pre:v lossless_ultrafast \ -filter_com...

Re: Using Qjackctl with jackd and pulseaudio

I guess I tend towards the old ways. Yes, pulseaudio is getting harder and harder to avoid. But you can enable "autospawn = no" which gives you the ability to STOP pulseaudio versus suspending pulseaudio. Which is a difference of about 100MB of available RAM (not that I've checked the spec...

Re: (Probably) hardware related noise

My guess would be power. GPU maxing out the PSU? USB power under spec? Grid power too rough for audio needs? A higher spec'd PSU? A powered USB Hub? A pure sine wave inverter / battery backup system? Just guesses of course.

Re: (Probably) hardware related noise

My guess would be motherboard or power supply. You might try using a powered usb hub to de-stress the motherboard a bit, but it probably wont make a difference. I've had cheap electret mics that when placed on my laptops LCD would click when the screen image changed. Like the counter clock on ardour...

Re: want to connect keyboard to synth via Linux

In the old days you'd connect midi devices to other midi device with a midi to midi cable. Aka hardware solutions. In software you would use qjackctl, aconnect, or other things to route the signals. You might need a usb to midi cable to physically connect to the midi input of the other keyboard. Or ...

Re: Interface box recommendation?

Quality mics and preamps would be a starting point. Which puts less emphasis on the capabilities of the recording end and it travels with you through the generations of recording tech. Otherwise record in 24 bit and at the highest bitrate that's reasonable.
