Re: My new audio server (Warning: Humor)

Yes, back stage is a perfect place for this post. But the barrage of responses and replies that follow have nothing to do with the thread topic and only displays adversity to a new or established forum member and is tiring. It's gotten very old. I will continue to lock threads that descend into such...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

I use pulse audio for my sound because it has the pavucontrol program. But it does cause crackling in some games. Not sure why. But I have no idea what they done to make it work honestly. But it's what I'm using. It works just as well as on Linux and oss works fine too. I tried jack and it works for...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

I've got no place to do audio at the moment but plan to build a place very soon. It will be expensive so it may be a while yet. But since I've switched over I have tried some games and they work rather nicely. There are two version of steam I have tried, Linux Steam (linux-steam-utils where the Linu...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

Alsa doesn't work on BSD, right? It's still OSS (the sound API). And I know that the BSD folks haven't gotten Wayland going yet. Wayland works on FreeBSD and you can install alsa. You can use pulse audio and pipewire too. There are many thousands of ports for FreeBSD. And by the way I played Metro ...

Re: Tascam US20X20

Apparently there was a post in 2016 from another user here who reported they were unable to get their 20X20 working either. Appears to be unresolved. This may be a firmware restriction. https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?p=70409&hilit=Tascam+US20X20#p70409 On page 2 of the manual for this ...

Re: When is enough, enough..?

The FreeBSD forums like this thread. They're wondering what's the deal with pipewire too. lol

Re: When is enough, enough..?

the option to use the Linux terminal and WSL ...but you can't expect this to work like you are used to - e.g. to tail a log file, you have to pass some special options concerning inotify/inodes to get a permanently updated output on a log-file (don't remember what it was exactly). You have to mount...

Re: When is enough, enough..?

I agree, windows is not a good system. Linux has a lot more going for it in general. But ChromeOS and android are no better out of the box. The only good that ChromeOS/android and windows have is the option to use the Linux terminal and WSL. But android isn't rooted by default either. So it's not a ...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

I did a remix on a song with audacity using active effects. I used GhostBSD on kde. Literally zero stability issues or audio crackling issues etc. I used the internal audio for the work. The system is an HP ProBook G3 with AMD A10-8700. The track is ice frontier by skaven. This track was modified wi...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

Last time on FreeBSD, I had troubles running jack - even with OSS4... I was told that FreeBSD is focused on stability and safety, not so much towards realtime performance. What is the status quo now? All debian packages as well as all Arch Linux packages were ported to FreeBSD? At the same time Fre...

Re: Migrating to FreeBSD

I've still got my main gear in storage but I have done some testing on a mini PC and a laptop. I'm actually surprised how well steam proton works on FreeBSD. Anyway, I am looking forward to setting up audio. If one bsd doesn't work I will move to another depending on the hardware. At this point I ha...

Re: Spring Cleaning

Great question. I have admin access for moderating only. I am unable to do any server changes or maintenance. So I honestly don't know what is installed for spam. I do often ban by ip when there is spam. But may be able to check if it's listed in the admin.
