Re: Small guitar interfaces that work with Linux
Yeah, I'll likely give one or more of them a try soon - I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here first, though, in case anyone had any experience with them. Yeah. I didn't know guitar pedal style USB interfaces are a thing so thanks for posting that. I'm curious about the bit rate and whether it'll e...

Re: Small guitar interfaces that work with Linux
I don't know if the Orange is USB 1.1. It says 'USB 2.0 Compatible' which is subtly different from 'USB 2.0'. If it is ... USB 1.1 has more latency in itself. USB audio uses isochronous transfer which sends one packet per millisecond in USB 1.1 and eight packets per millisecond in USB 2.0. Not a hug...

Re: Small guitar interfaces that work with Linux
If a device works with iOS it's likely to work with Linux. You said you got burnt with class compliance. This could be due to a bug in ALSA that was allegedly fixed in kernel 5.11 related to implicit feedback and how ALSA deals with that. ALSA claims to support class compliance and it should in theo...

Re: MX Linux - why is there still a Home folder?
OK. My impression is that you have done what you want, but you don't realise you have done it. :) Your /home/<user name> is on a separate partition. I don't know a huge amount about WINE but I do know WINE stuff goes in /home/<user name>/.wine -- this is now on a separate partition. If you re-instal...

Re: MX Linux - why is there still a Home folder?
When I install apps and programs will they still go to the Home partitions or the Home folder in File System? Is this the question? There is no 'or' in this question -- they're the same place. I used to have a separate /home partition, in fact it was a separate drive. The reason for this was that m...

/dev/nvme0n1p3 is mounted at /homepax-eterna wrote:/dev/nvme0n1p3 on /home type ext4 (rw,relatime)
What you're calling 'Home' is /home/<your user name> which is a folder on the separate partition.

Re: Behringer AI so quiet it's barely audible
I was using Ardour and realised that my 0dBFS advice could lead to confusion about the internal bus in Ardour. Internally Ardour uses a 32 bit float bus so it is possible to go over 0dBFS internally . In other words you don't have to worry too much about the level of tracks inside Ardour. The Master...

Re: key of G# major?
Guitarists tend to like sharps, saxophonists tend to like flats. Jazzers like flats, rockers like sharps. Old school jazzers think E is a weird key the same way rockers think Bb is weird. "Why not make it A and then I get all those open strings?" :) At a gig it's good to play in a variety ...

But no (and with this I don't mean to characterize YOUR response), what I get is no end of bleeding-edge-theory-A beating the royal crap out of bleeding-edge-theory-B ...or trying to  I've made up my mind: there is NO G# major, end of story! There are NO 8 accidentals at the bottom of MY 5ths ...

No I would not recommend that cable.Fmajor7add9 wrote:What's the ethernet interface req. for such a catch all connection? Would you recommend high quality cat5 like Denon's AK-DL1?

Re: Desktop, towers, racks, remote controlled by VNC, extension cable to interface
It would be better if you could send everything over a network cable. VNC doesn't send audio over the network. For VNC software I have found tigervnc is good. It's a different world from having e.g. a KVM switch with tons of wires everywhere. Using VNC without audio the remote machine only needs a p...

Re: key of G# major?
In theory there could be -- it's just a bit bonkers to use it. G# has 8 sharps (all the notes sharp with one of them being a double sharp). Ab has four flats, which is a bit easier, don't you think?D-Tuned wrote:I'm a little confused, especially since there is no G# major key

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
For balance what we need is a vicious rant about how bad Windows is ... Windows 7 is bad. I recently bought a keyboard (qwerty style) with a backlight that needed a firmware update to stop certain keys (ironically one of them being the Windows key) burning my eyes out my head. You guessed it the fir...

A kind soul ran out of fire and just gave me a https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/m- ... ewire-1814 And you want to use that with a laptop? Years ago I helped my friend set up a ... eh ... Windows laptop with a Firewire interface. At first it didn't work and this was due to the Cardbus Firewire a...
