Re: mackie onix 8 ... should work on Linux
It doesn't require a driver to use with Mac OS, which suggests it is Class Compliant. Mackie's product page notes that the DAW included with the mixer (Waveform) is Linux-compatible, which one would assume they would omit if the device itself wasn't recognized by Linux. It appears that it will work,...

Re: I need help! What is the most perfectly functioning audio/midi Interface for Linux?
The UMC204HD is a good option for a straight-forward and economical device. I have owned a UMC1820 since 2018 and use it daily as my desktop's soundcard, and it is still working as well as the day I bought it. There was a YT video I watched where a guy measured the noise floors of multiple 2 input u...

That makes sense. Bottles applications appear to be akin to Flatpaks, which sandbox programs, meaning a host (Reaper in your case) can't communicate with it.

The Linux Studio Plugins cover a lot of bases and get good marks from others on their code quality: https://lsp-plug.in/ The Socalabs, Zam, and x42 plugins include the basics and have a simpler set of controls: https://socalabs.com/ https://www.zamaudio.com/ https://x42-plugins.com/x42/ If you downl...

People using Apple and Microsoft tells me they have money Any non-Apple and non-Chromebook PC one buys off-the-shelf in the US has Windows pre-installed on it. Last year I bought a new laptop for $119 at Best Buy on Black Friday, the cheapest laptop in existence at the time, and it came with Window...

Re: Fundraiser: Expediting Linux Support for Focusrite Scarlett 4th Gen Devices
Your work on this is very impressive, geoffrey . I'm glad to see the support you received from the community and Focusrite. I hadn't considered their devices in the past because the internal mixing software was not available on Linux (at least not for all models or with a UI as polished and easy to ...

Re: New wiki article on installing a Linux audio system
My two cents on swap and some questions about the recommended packages... It is really easy to setup ZRAM in Debian 12 to handle swap duties if you don't want a swap partition for whatever reason, which will prevent edge-case performance problems that could perhaps occur if no swap is present at all...

Re: AP-Linux jack rack alternative...
What I seek is a distro which by default installs only the very basic necessities and that the overall sound quality is as high as possible. What was it about AP Linux that provided higher sound quality than any other distro? I am dubious of claims such as this: "The unnecessary services and d...

Re: CALF plugins?
Fair. My understanding of what a straw man is seemingly incorrect. To clarify, I didn't intend to misrepresent your position or put words in your mouth. I was just pointing out that regardless where the truth lies on the topic of code quality, the GTK2 issue still exists and in my view, it alone is ...

Re: CALF plugins?
Bashing CALF plugins is an at least 5 year old hobby of Ardour (and its commercial brother Mixbus) users  It is not my intent to bash CALF plugins, but it does seem there are legitimate technical issues that are a fair point of consideration when deciding to use them or an equivalent plugi...

Re: CALF plugins?
Hmmm....whose graph should I believe? :) Yeah, I made that graph up. Right. My point is not that I "don't believe" x42, my point is that his issue with ardour+calf does not occur here with muse+calf. So I cannot regard his issue as a (significant) flaw at all, regardless of where his issu...

Re: CALF plugins?
Hmmm....whose graph should I believe? :) x42 is an expert. He makes major contributions to Ardour, has written an entire set of plugins himself, and he has a doctorate degree in digital audio. I trust he knows what he is taking about and also trust if the problem was with Ardour's automation, it wou...

Re: CALF plugins?
I am not happy with posts like "As for the rest of them I pretty much avoid them largely due to the bad press here" "I will avoid the Calf plugins from now on although I liked the gui and the handling very well. This means that people don't trust their ears but rely on some technical...
