Re: Any good filters?

Do you have any concrete expectations about the filters? Have you tried the tal filter? For a coloured output, it seems to do the job. It is a bit unstable in my experience, though. I'm pretty sure many vst filters implement more complex algorithms to sound ready withouth any further work. Try compr...

Re: Good bass sound from DI

I don't have a DI box, but go straight from my bass to my usb interface. The plugins I usually add to the chain are, in order: calf filter, calf gate, calf compressor. The first I set to 12db/oct low pass, at around 300Hz (varies according to the context). The gate and the compressor have attack and...

Re: new as new could be

In my view, choosing free software for any given task is an ethic decision. Unless you stick to some default, you will find difficulties, things that aren't as easy as with other software packages or even features that are lacking. Nonetheless, this often turns out as a chance to learn the innards o...

Re: Lead Sheet editor?

Have a look at lilypond and frescobaldi (a lilypond's UI). They are the best in terms of final layout, and once you get used to the workflow, they really shine.

Re: New AV software in Debian 8 (Jessie)

How about compiling your own? It's been a while since I last compiled kernels but it wasn't too difficult. (Not sure how hard it would be to patch it to rt though) It's easy if you stick to some distro's default rt config. Once you start tweaking it becomes nightmare-ish. On the other hand, not man...

Re: fluidsynth microtonal alternative tuning

I'm resurrecting this old thread since it's one of the few startpage results on the subject: Does the methods described still work for anyone on current kxstudio builds? I'm on debian wheezy with the kxstudio repos, and I tried exporting midi tuning standard files from scala (which work with the one...

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux

I came from Mint and I've troubleshooted on both AVLinux and KXStudio and I still get the clicks and pops. It works fine at 44.1khz duplex and quality is good but anything higher than that I get the clicks. It definitely has something to do with capture side of things just not entirely sure exactly...

Re: Using Rosegarden with recorded audio files?

As mentioned above, you need a sampler to load your recordings on. The sampler will change the playback speed of your recording to match the MIDI pitch. You would then connect the MIDI output of Rosegarden into the MIDI input of the selected sampler. There are a few wavetable samplers for linux, the...

Hi, I just came by this http://rosegardenmusic.com/tutorials/su ... index.html

It's a tutorial on how to handle multiple staffs properly with rosegarden. It may be useful for someone reading through the forum. Good luck!

Re: Bowed contrabass

Ok, I tried this yesterday. The legato sounds kind of plastic, to be honest. I think I'd rather have them raw. F or F# sounded duller than the rest of the samples particularly. Also, they have too much vibrato to make them universally useful, if I recall correctly (I'm not at home right now). Does t...

Re: Your prayers have been listened...

Very cool feature. I'm within the people that's not greatly affected, but I'm sure it can be of use sometime. What would probably be very interesting is carla rack as a dssi or ladspa, though that's probably impossible or impractical.
