Re: Low buffer sizes, Cadence/Jack..

Well, this isn't an explanation of what you are seeing but it's an excellent resource for configuring Jack: http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic ... 47&t=10707

Re: noob questions about samples

Is there a multiple gigabyte package I can download to get 1000+ of the 'best' (high quality) CC licensed samples of various instruments/music genres? No. If not, then I'm curious why not. Hosting, bandwidth and interest. Hosting and bandwidth cost money. And, even if those things weren't an issue,...

Re: Pad Sounds (request)

Weather Report and Steely Dan Pffffffffft. Return To Forever's "Romantic Warrior". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa21WPH4_U4&list=PL31D71D5B32260190 Pffffffffft? If you want to substitute Return To Forever for Weather Report, I'm okay with that. There are others. More than I want to ...

KDE without the fluff

I spent two years with the KxStudio install from the iso and discovered how great Dolphin, Kate and KDE's system settings are. What I didn't care for was the window management, and I thought the plasma desktop was silly. Then I found the i3 window manager and that was very much to my liking, but whe...

Re: Pad Sounds (request)

I do jazz fusion; Like Weather Report type jazz fusion? Any links to your music? (Sorry to derail the thread, but I love Weather Report). That's pretty much my goal. Maybe somewhere between Weather Report and Steely Dan (minus the vocals). Basically, 'Birdland' is the best piece of music ever made,...

Re: Pad Sounds (request)

Sounds like we have a lot in common, I also have zero interest in creating Synth sounds... my eyes glaze over about 3 seconds after I turn the first LFO knob... :) Yeah, I'm a guitarist too. I could get by with native Linux apps, except what I do is very sequencer intensive. I do jazz fusion...

Re: Pad Sounds (request)

Earlier, I answered the question you asked without offering any other alternatives. Here's an alternative: TyrellN6 http://www.u-he.com/cms/tyrelln6 it's a very nice and free vst synth with a ton of great presets. A wide variety of sounds including lot of nice pads and organs. It works excellent in ...

Re: Questions about using Debian

Oh, hey! I just discovered that you can play YouTube videos in VLC also. I've been using VLC for podcasts, because it's easy to copy a url then in VLC just ctl-v to paste and it will play. With SMTube you have to use the search within the app to find videos. VLC doesn't come with Jack support though...

Re: Carla as an SFZ player

Great.

When it's available in the repos I'll post about it in the Reaper forum. I've seen people ask about running Linux native plugins in Reaper before.

Re: Carla as an SFZ player

EDIT: But as you might know, there's the "JackAss" plugin coming up very soon. Carla in latest git now saves&restores JACK connections, so these 3 (reaper + jackass + carla) might be all you need in the future. :D I couldn't find much on "Jackass" but what did makes it sound...

Re: Questions about using Debian

Yeah, it's great!

You can also use SMTube and configure Mplayer to use Jack https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MP ... CK_support then not have to use the alsa bridge for YouTube videos. VLC also has a Jack plugin. I hardly ever use the alsa bridge.

Would I be able to use it in Reaper to give me access to Linux native plugins?

Carla as an SFZ player

To clarify something you said on another post, is Carla able to play sfz's without linuxsampler?

Related to that, are there plans to make Carla able to be used as a vst plugin?
