Re: What kind of musician am I?

Interesting thread here. For me, I'm a constant learner. Not so much of a 'jammer', but I still enjoy being a member of Wikiloops, an online 'jamming' platform where I sometimes try to add a bass to a piece if it still needs one, or I try to improve a mix, whatever. After a bit more than two years o...

Re: Jack nightmare...! Trying to get headphones working with USB mic

Like Michael said, the easiest way to get working bridges between Jack, Alsa, and Pulseaudio is to use Cadence from the KXStudio repos. You might also want to check if jack runs as jackdbus, maybe the settings of alsamixer (on command line maybe), and whether your OS settings (I'm on Gnome) chose th...

Re: USB Audio interface for low latency

Hello Alex, you haven't said something about your budget yet. The RME audio devices are well known for their low latency and their excellent sound, and I personally play bass into my Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen), and I'm more than happy with it. Using an RT kernel on Debian, my Cadence (from KXS...

Re: Serif font in ardour after upgrade to debian buster

yes, sorry it's mine, i forgot to return here to post: Just rename the libfontconfig.so.1 (at /opt/ardour/lib/) to libfontconfig.so.1.bkp I worked for me. Cool, thanks. That resolved both the font problems and the delayed start after upgrade to Buster (with additional KXStudio repos). Cheers, Wolfg...

Hi Marco,

your user is in the audio group, and that group has access to realtime? Also, did you have the same problem with other interfaces, like the 2nd gen ones?

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Re: Linux music player recommendation

Since switching the system sample rate every time I switch albums is not practical, Hi supereb, I'm wondering why you have to do that - my system automatically switches between everything I feed it. My audio interface is set to 48k, but 44.1 works well without any reconfiguration - and so does ever...

Cool, enjoy!

Oh, and I was working on our small virtual server a bit - but now both my page and the one of our daughter should be back online :)

Cheers (looking forward to "seeing" you there...),

Re: Collaboration online

I'm at Wikiloops for the exact same reasons: having realized that I won't be famous, I just want to have fun and share and play some music (make some noise) together with others. Since I joined, I've made 7 albums - see my blog over at https://wolfgang.lonien.de/ where I list them Latest collab was ...

Re: Linux support for Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 gen 3?

I'm afraid that there isn't any Linux support for it; there is/was another thread about the 3rd gen interfaces already: https://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20183 However there's a mixer in the making for the older gen2 series, also with a thread about it: https://www.linuxmusician...

Re: Rated Blue - Joy

Very cool song, band, sound, and production Glen, and bravo to all of you. As a bass player I love the bass obviously, but in fact it's all very nice up to the organ in the end. Great vocals as well.

Thumbs up, man! And thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Re: Trying to get microphone audio levels right

Hey Sirsquid, as Musicteacher already pointed out, it's probably the combination of (dynamic) microphone and audio interface here, try to verify that with other equipment if you can (borrow another mic and interface from friends, or try it in a store). Particularly known are problems with the Shure ...

Hi omicronkappa278, when I was in the same situation as you are now (knowing and using Linux, knowing some about music, but not using them both together until then),I found Libre Music Production to be a good help and resource for beginners like me. For your case, I'd suggest to start here: http://l...

Re: Do you guys have a hard time finding people to collaborate with?

These are not my things . It's simply based on what I see in the text you provided. Yes they are. You have a problem with that site and even capture someone else's thread with asking for help to start a nasty topic on it again and again. It's enough, simply stop it! And who is coming back reply aft...

Re: Do you guys have a hard time finding people to collaborate with?

w/o asking the author(s) There - you did it again. Can't you do without setting up things which aren't on that site, and in their rules? Nothing there works without asking authors. Your music seems to be very precious if some nice collaboration with others can be prevented by an imaginary (cause it...

Re: Do you guys have a hard time finding people to collaborate with?

I won't ever understand your problem with that site Al - but instead of looking it up for free there, you decide to constantly talking it bad here - which it hasn't deserved IMHO. This went into another sad example of it all. I thought Linux-friendly musicians had a more open mindset. But to each hi...
