Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

Thank you for all the answers. This error is not really critical, my system is quite stable now, but I wanted to "iron out" the problem just in case it could influence others... So I think by the moment I'm going to live with it and wait until Ubuntu updates systemd (or better said, until ...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

Thank you so much to both of you for your suggestions... @Linuxmusician01: I've tried the command you provide and, on the positive side, the output shows no "lockdown" message. I opened a project in Reaper and it seemed to work and be very stable. However, it seems to have a very high late...

Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 19, and I'm in the process of optimizing it for my laptop. I recently completed the tests of Realtime Config Quick Scan, with everything showing "good" with the exception of "Realtime kernel" (a requirement that, as I understand according to...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

Thank you again for all the responses. I love it when I get to know a bit better how everything works at the "guts" level... @Crocoduck: thank you for the system to check IRQ. I was doing it in a different way and I wasn't sure if I did it right; I checked interrupts with cat /proc/interru...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

Thank you again for all the info. It's been very useful and of great clarification to me. are you on the latest version of the script? Aaah, nope, sorry, just noticed. I found that script a long time ago, and kept it in my computer; I didn't know that it was an "alive" project, and was afr...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

Thank you for the responses. The video is unfortunately unwatchable, at least for my eyes/screen  I can't distinguish what the terminal says. So I tried raboof's command: $ SOUND_CARD_IRQ=129 ./realTimeConfigQuickScan.pl and I get: Can't locate QuickScanEngine.pm in @INC (you may need to insta...

Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

Hi, I'm going through the points of Realtime Config Quick Scan script in order to tune my new system, so far with great success, but now I've found something I don't know how to do: ** Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ to the IRQ of your soundcard to enable more checks. Where exactly do you set that variable? I'v...

Re: Latest recordings -- what can i improve

The first one: what a great voice and song! I have a bit of a pet peeve with the "gaspings" at the beginning of the phrasings, they take me a bit out of the song, and I usually lower them down or even remove them in my own stuff, but I've observed that a lot of people just leave them as th...

Re: Issues with recording with audacity + rakarak!!

From what you describe, what might be happening is that you think you're recording Rakarrack, but in fact what Audacity is recording is the direct input from the guitar. Then that recorded track gets directed to Rakarrack, and that's why it changes as you change Rakarrack settings. To test this, try...

Re: Other Software: vlc simple alternatives ?

My favorite was Aqualung, which had the exact number of features for me, but I haven't been able to find it recently, maybe it has been discontinued. So I recently found Audacious, which is very simple to use, has a non-bloated interface, and yet it allows creating playlists, drag and drop of files....

Re: Drums in Ardour

For what is worth, I got kicked out of drums editing out of frustration from Ardour (surrealistic behavior, instability proved in 20" after failing to perform the simplest operations), and Qtractor (more stable, but lacking very basic functionalities, and having the nerve of DESTROYING your wor...

Re: When you release your music, do you credit Linux?

My stance on the matter has changed along the years. I used to credit Linux and stick logos wherever I could. But at a certain point, stating the fact so much started to feel a bit forced to me. Like when a country with a small film industry launches a movie and they say things like "a movie th...

Re: AV Linux takes very long to boot

Yes, you're right, I guess it's a good practice doing so, due note taken for the future. The thing is my previous distro for a long time has been Puppy Linux, which, on top of running as root, has a strange folder structure, so it took me a while to get a hold of the "normal" Linux file hi...

Re: Guitar distortion has become harsh and I don't know why

Yeah, I've tried using 48000 several times along this process and didn't seem to help. I've usually used more often 44000 for "legacy" reasons (the project was started with that rate, and changing it halfway was a mess), and because 48000 gives a slightly superior latency, but I'll keep in...

Re: Guitar distortion has become harsh and I don't know why

Hi, it's me again. In this time tried to move to AV Linux but it didn't work well in my system (~1 minute to boot, lost wifi, etc...), so I finally moved back to Ubuntu Studio. Therefore I haven't been able to update my Guitarix version (let it be known in the world wide web: updating Guitarix in Ub...
