Re: The state of sample players on Linux
Yeah, but that's just the sounds from Native Instruments and a lot of what they sell isn't theirs exclusively. So third party ones will work but the factory ones won't? O.o I wouldn't mind so much making SFZs if I could share them. It seems like a waste. How about setting up an SFZ Napster? ...

Re: The state of sample players on Linux
I did that and when it came to installing the sound libraries Kontakt wanted to install it's own driver to open the iso and that won't work on Wine. Darn it. If that's not a one-off...well, the situation just became a little more worse. :( It will load some of the SFZ files I have that Linuxsampler...

Nice, thanks for this info, StudioDave.
They also mention this - http://ctrlr.org/
Also cross platform, Linux version available, but certainly not a familiar name...strange...

Re: The state of sample players on Linux
OP - I feel your pain. My line of work means I'm in your situation, except that I need orchestral libs. And the best of them are on Kontakt and VSL formats. I spoke to loads of people on IRC channels, and weighed my options - Option 1 - See if you can find good commercial GIG and SFZ sample sets [Re...

Re: Another deal gone down... XRUNS all over the place
Wow. There's a much simpler way, can't believe no one mentioned it. Install UbuntuStudio 12.04 (although maybe there's a KXStudio version for later Ubuntu versions, IDK) Install the KXStudio repos. -OR- Grab the KXStudio ISO. Use Cadence instead of qjackctl, click the 'Enable'/'Start' buttons for al...

Re: Linux Audio Social and Community Guide
I was working on something similar, albeit more concise (although I intend to add basic steps on how to use unfamiliar (for Windows users - I was once one too) technologies like IRC and mailing lists), here - http://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/other_help_channels

Re: Is there a screen recorder software with jack transport
Hey, Nils ^^NilsGey wrote:I really don't want to see workspace switching and jack connecting at the beginning of videos anymore
People can use Cadence for the first and edit the video start in Avidemux (=no re-encoding necessary) for the second. Although, I concur, such a software could be nice...

Why Linux? And why Linux for pro-audio?
Potentially controversial title probably got you here. Yay for marketing ;) But, this isn't a flame message, but rather an opinion-gathering one. For purposes of the wiki (as well as my own day-to-day subtle grassroots-level FOSS advocacy), I would like to know from you all - 1. Why use Linux and FO...

Re: Theme
Tangentially related, could we change the wiki theme? I think it's rather terrible right now. I agree. I (along with other members, I'm sure) am looking into it as part of the wiki renovation op (I am as such hoping that the forum, the wiki, and LA.org will eventually use one unified theme and cons...

Totally agree with ''TheSafePlaces'' opinion If it's up to me i would "Stallman" the entire system, you bad kxstudio, you I believe you need to go back and read my post again to understand what I really meant. For the babies amongst us, I'll bottom line it for you - it was a practicality-...

Re: Cakewalk 9.01 Home Studio under Wine with KXStudio
hebjuzeb... If you want to use Windows applications on Linux through WINE, I'd suggest going to Windows instead. The reason no one supports the WINE route is because it is unlikely to work out well, and Linux audio devs have no real way of fixing anything there (and WINE devs? MAYBE). You want to do...

Re: ALSA, JACK and other approaches (e.g. Windows Audio Syst
You have written Cadence so of course you know Jack intimately and find it easy, but your point of view is not comparable with the average user. Wow. Wanna know what the average user thinks? I don't know how to code and all, and have been on KXStudio less than a year, I might qualify. I set it up w...

Awesome, I was looking for something like this (to the extent of learning to programme to get it), albeit for the purpose of ear training.
Will try it out, and then share my experience here. Thank you very much for sharing this, eleander.

Re: Anything like Finale's speedy note entry?
I've never seen much less used Finale, but if it's anything like Sibelius you'll be right at home in MuseScore, BUT... Nothing, and I do mean nothing, beats Laborejo for no-nonsense and speedy workflow while simultaneously being easy to get used to (denemo, for instance, had way too much of a steep ...
