Re: Ubuntu Studio vs LinuxMint 21.3

My 2 cents: if it ain't broken don't try to fix it.

Re: Dual Keys & Split Keys with QSynth

@noedig I thought that Jack programs would work with Pipewire without modification, since Pipewire provides a Jack compatible server. Note that some users (Debian bookworm / bullseye and related) are going to be running an old version of Pipewire (pre the 1.0 release which added true pro-audio supp...

Re: CALF plugins?

The real problem here is software (or development stuff, I don't know what to call it) that is not backwards compatible. Companies that do that should be banned from distributing their ever again! You shot a bit over the top. Checkout what we all get from GTK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...

Re: What's everyone using to sequence drums?

I'm finding it difficult to actually pinpoint the issue at the moment mind you. Sometimes it's fine, other times it's not. I'd need to be able to give definite steps to recreate it. I experienced those problems years ago in Hydrogen. I thought is was because didn't configure Jack tempo master/slave...

Re: CALF plugins?

CALF plugins are still in Debian stable ("Bookworm"). Chances are that Debian will keep gtk2 for a long time since Debian is not run by teenagers who love the newest hot shit – and don't care about people who just want to use computers to get things done instead of installing and learning...

Re: Arturia Midi Driver - has anybody got it working in WINE? (subject amended)

I just went back and read the first post. You have the 5 pin midi out on that keyboard. It will definitely work on Linux. You need to buy a $15 class compliant USB to midi cable, and use that to connect to the keyboard. Getting it to work isn't the issue, it's configuring the hardware that can't be...

Re: Arturia Midi Driver - has anybody got it working in WINE? (subject amended)

Well, I've finally given up. Arturia's been good about responding to my queries; I just don't like what they respond WITH ("We don't support linux and have no interest in supporting linux"). And no combination WINE tweakery and trickery can coerce MIDI Control Center into talking t...

Thank you all for the explanations of the "invisible" pixel/link. And thanks for the AI bot warning. I'm getting old: I need this sort of info on how the internet changes. :)

Re: I think it's that time of the year again

What are the tricks to identifying a bot? I haven’t noticed any here—although others have pointed them out. The only obvious bots I have recognized in the past were those annoying DiscoDSP support comments that were used on KVRAudio. A first-time poster replying to what may be a months or years old...

Re: Professional Linux Audio Users, How Did You Do It?

[...] I would say most reliable plugins are old free windows plugins (32 or 64 bit) which are plain dll without installer. They identify themselves same, and they continue to work. Funny you should mention that. I've got some of those antique VST 2.4 Windows plugins too (i.e. plain dll's). Most of ...

Re: Professional Linux Audio Users, How Did You Do It?

Concerning Reaper freezing up: I take it that you use the Linux native version of it, not Reaper via Wine. Maybe they can offer support via the Reaper forum (it is paid software so you may expect some form of support from 'm). Concerning the use of software from one operating system (Windows) in ano...

Re: Pitch Bend Wheel fake 14 bit resolution

The problem is largely physical. Consider the actual track length of an average rotary control against the contact area of the wiper, then add in irregularities in the surface plus background noise - added to micro-movements caused, or amplified by vibration of the control wheel. The 'cheap' way to...

Re: Pitch Bend Wheel fake 14 bit resolution

It doesn't matter much to me, but I found out that while pitch bend messages "should be" 14 bits instead of the usual 7 bits for CC, resulting in 16.384 discrete values, my midi keyboard's pitch wheel sends those values with increments of 128, so the actual resolution of the pitch bend wh...
