Re: Digital Piano Sound Source
Raspi2 has good performance and possibly will work well with a USB audio interface like a cheap Behringer UCA202/222, more info here. I haven't tried to make use of these myself so cannot vouch for how well it works. http://autostatic.com/2015/04/18/raspberry-pi-revisited/ http://autostatic.com/2015...

In case your comp has USB3, DON'T use USB3 ports for audio, or set USB3 port to USB2 mode in the BIOS

Re: Raspberry Pi - Current Status?
Just out of curiosity, would a Behringer UCA202 USB audio interface + DI, or something similar like the UCG102, be capable of low latency audio on a Rasp-Pi? Because if yes, these are pretty cheap and reasonably usable quality audio interfaces. I imagine latency problems are resolvable, more info in...

Re: Regular disk drive vs. Solid-state
From that perspective, I suppose it's correct to deduce that having a distro on a USB stick (or media card or similar) is faster and perhaps better-performing for those of us who use linux for making music, etc. Correct? If so, could this be a useful set-up? Advantages or disadvantages? Only if it'...

Re: Problem with ulimits
The only thing I change for audio in /etc/pam.d is to add that line to common-session It's not entirely clear to me whether you've actually modified the /etc/security/limits.conf file as per my post or whether this file even exists on your system? Your original post only mentions a file called /etc/...

Re: Newbie: Best Instrument-Samples / VSTi
Hi, I use Linux since 5 years. But sill working on Windows with Cubase, but want to change now to Ubuntu Studio, Ardour4, etc... I wouldn't bother with Ubuntu Studio, it is limited and development lags compared to KXstudio. Just install KXStudio's isos or the repositories over Debian, Ubuntu, Mint ...

I don't know how your particular system works but I set mine like so on Debian, substitute <username> with your username. Perhaps the information can be adapted for your audio.conf #Add user to audio and disk groups adduser <username> audio adduser <username> disk echo "@audio - rtprio 90"...

Re: Xruns with NI Kontakt on an otherwise Xrun-free system
Wow Asbak, those are quite a few recommendations. I'll have to have a go at those once I can find the time! I can't guarantee all of them are relevant or applicable to your circumstances but most of them have affected me at some time or another, depending upon conditions which vary with zillions of...

Re: seeking HW advice for new SW project
Thanks again for all the input everyone. I've decided to buy a new audio interface for this project, one that also supports midi (my Scarlett doesn't) so I can minimize the number of devices I need to have on stage. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I made a (sorta) quick scan of devices...

Re: Xruns with NI Kontakt on an otherwise Xrun-free system
Yeah the CPU setting pretty much makes or breaks one's kontakt + wine experience. The same thing is required for running Reason + Wine. For me using Kontakt with dssi-vst (in Muse for example) works quite well, it seems to be less xrun prone (apart from a few when loading samples) than some other me...

Ask for volunteers to write up the docs
Perhaps a Wiki project for KXStudio where people can start documenting usage, functionality and so on.

Re: jack/alsa restricted to 1024 period size
Try it with the other latency settings other than 512. If it still doesn't work then perhaps it's time to consider an audio interface known to provide low-latency performance under Linux.

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Apologies if this question has been asked and answered before but is there a way to resize or set the size of the Helm GUI? For some reason in both standalone and LV2 mode it's massively oversized on my 1920x1080 monitor (too large to fit on the screen) and I haven't yet found a way to reduce the si...
