Re: Mastering the loudness of a track

@impostor That's so weird. I don't know how you've managed that because I've never been able to get a compressor to make those effects! Maybe you're onto something

Re: Mastering the loudness of a track

EQ and compression are your main tools in mixing. Those are the things you really want to focus on getting good with. The rest is all dressing.. I'm playing around with LSP compressor on a drumtrack now. So far I'm able to produce a flam effect, and a reverb-like one. Not sure if it's an improvemen...

Re: Mastering the loudness of a track

Thanks for your input. I was trying to get rid of the peaks in the mastertrack without audible consequences (to be able to amplify the track without clipping) so using a compressor or clipper seems out of the question. Hard-limiting (that's how it's called in Cool Edit) just decreases the amplitude...

Re: Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

Ok. So I've installed 'Nobara' which is essentially a modified version of Fedora aimed at gamers. Anyway, I'm quite far through getting things setup up now and I'm at the stage of setting up realtime privileges for audio. I've added myself to the audio group & created/added myself to the realtim...

Re: Mastering the loudness of a track

Also true. In another thread I got the advice to leave a supposedly finished track for a couple of weeks in order to regain some objectivity. Good advice, but one that requires an enormous amount of self-control.. I think that's great advice and it's something I've been practicing recently. I also ...

Re: How do YOU decide when a song's finished?

Impostor Yeh I get it. I used to be the same! You really want to show the world what you've made.. But as I'm someone who spends months just making one song, I'm used to the process taking a long time and I'll just put one aside once it's close to being done and then begin the next one. I don't rel...

Re: How do YOU decide when a song's finished?

Nothing is ever finished! Get used to that.. It's just a case of when you let them go and I have learned something very useful about that so I'll share it with you; When you think is a song is 'finished' or ready to be released (which is more how I think of it), leave it alone and don't listen to it...

Re: Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

Linuxmusician01 As I say; I'm not interested in anything Debian/Ubuntu based. I like Arch because it's very up to date on everything. To be fair, I've had a good experience with it over all. It doesn't break often. However, there's always some update that will eventually cause an issue and it's jus...

Re: Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

I use Fedora for music. I added this repository (which I maintain): https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ycollet/audinux/ The small website related to this repo: https://audinux.github.io/ I made some music using this repo. Mostly with LMMS: https://www.jamendo.com/artist/471813/joseph-curwen/al...

Re: Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

Fedora has a version with music packages installed called Jam you might want to look at https://labs.fedoraproject.org/en/jam/ Not used it myself though. Oh cool. I had no idea that existed! I'll check it out, thanks :) Last time I've looked into it (with some RC of 37 or so) I've found it a bit me...

Fedora - Anyone use it for music?

Update: I know what to do now ;) Thanks for the help. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original post below: Hey. I've been a user of Arch based distros for a while now and was a user of Ubuntu based distros before that. I like Arch stuff a hell of...

Re: [SOLVED!] Trouble with Best Service/Magix Engine library (Era II Medieval Legends)

I've tried the Microsoft download already. I'll try that wine one you linked but I think it'll probably be the same. I did actually manage to get dotnet40 installed into a 64 bit prefix via winetricks; I've edited my opening post with info about this. I'll keep testing and see if I can get a newer v...

Re: Trouble with Best Service/Magix Engine library (Era II Medieval Legends)

I tried making a 32 bit prefix and installing dotnet48 with Winetricks and it worked. I'm so close to what I need now.. I've just realised that the dotnet48 installer I got from Microsoft is apparently an update file even though it wasn't advertised as such. If I can find the full installer for 4.8 ...

Re: Trouble with Best Service/Magix Engine library (Era II Medieval Legends)

After a lot of messing around for hours and cutting a long story short, I got dotnet48 installed in my 64 bit prefix. I had to download it from Microsoft rather than via Winetricks though. The Winetricks version wouldn't show up as an installed program in a 64 bit prefix. Anyway, I've tried running ...

Re: Trouble with Best Service/Magix Engine library (Era II Medieval Legends)

Hi, I just registered to reply that, thanks to all the post above, I got this working by creating a new 32bit Wineprefix (via Winetricks), then force installing dotnet 4.8 on this Wineprefix by launching winetricks by running Winetricks --force. I did not have to install mono. I then started Wine U...
