Re: FOSS Replacement for Waves MaxxBass?

I'm looking for ways to ensure low frequencies are audible on computer speakers. Yeh. Saturation, distortion, soft clipping etc.. Tie that in with some EQ boosts in the right place of the upper bass/lower mid-range. All that stuff can help. But you probably know this so hopefully someone will be ab...

Re: Electronic Drums

Samplez https://samples.kb6.de/downloads.php I got a bunch of my samples from this site years back. I remember some of them had some recording issues though with pops/clicks which doubled up with the transient on some kicks/snares & ruined the samples a bit so I had to look elsewhere to replace...

Re: Tal Native Linux support

I still have no idea if there's any good reason to pick one plugin format over the over when both exist... If unsure, just pick VST3 as it's the newer format so in theory should be better if one of them is going to be. But I would read the release notes first as sometimes it can be better to pick V...

Re: FOSS Replacement for Waves MaxxBass?

Maximal 2 appears to be a limiter with saturation. MaxxBass seems to be something different to that. Why is it that you like MaxxBass/what do you use it for? You might just want to add some saturation to the bass. If there's a multiband saturation plugin on Linux then you could be more specific with...

Re: Electronic Drums

I make Synthwave music so I use old drum machine samples all the time. I'll recommend some of my favourite things to use. Drum samples: * Boss DR-550 Mk1 * Linn Drum LM1 * Linn Drum LM2 * Roland TR-707 * Roland TR-808 Plugins: * TAL Reverb 3. It sounds amazing on 80s claps! There is a Linux version ...

Re: Change sample rate and preserve loops

Can you recommend a free DAW that can do that? No idea haha.. I use FL Studio via Wine and that can do it. If you don't mind temporarily installing it just for the job then you could use the demo version which should let you do it. I think the only limitation is that it won't let you save projects ...

Re: Change sample rate and preserve loops

SoundConverter, maybe? I'm not sure it'd preserve the loop markers though: https://soundconverter.org/ But here's an alternative idea off the top of my head: 1. Import all these loops into a DAW that will understand these loop markers (Each loop on their own mixer track). 2. Set the sample rate of t...

Re: The state of Linux DAWs in 2021?

I briefly tested 11.2.4, and I'm encountering issues at least with some U-he plugins (seem to consistently crash when exiting, at least). Also, there's a weird crackling issue with lower sample rates... How low are we talking just out of interest? I haven't tried Waveform for a while. I think it wa...

Re: Can Reaper or Jack allow all audio @ same time in Linux

Ah yeh I forgot. Make sure these are installed: jackd2 pulseaudio-module-jack aj2mid If I'm not mistaken, the second one will allow you to bridge PulseAudio through Jack and the third one will allow you to do the same with midi. They'll probably come up as optional dependencies if you install Cadenc...

Re: Can Reaper or Jack allow all audio @ same time in Linux

Yeh I had this problem a while back and I finally got it solved one day when I installed Cadence. It's not that you need Cadence to do it, it just makes it nice and easy. My settings in Cadence under 'Jack bridges' ALSA Audio: ALSA>PulseAudio>Jack plugin ALSA MIDI: Bridge running PulseAudio: Stared ...

Re: Software to teach me keys & music theory?

That looks useful, but does it actually teach you music theory and scales etc? I watched the videos and it seems to me like it just gives you sheet music to play along to. That's not quite what I was thinking if so. I was thinking interactive piano lessons tied in with music theory so I'm learning b...

Software to teach me keys & music theory?

I'd like some software that can teach me to play keys better, something that would act as a virtual teacher. And very importantly, I'd also like it to tie that in with music theory lessons in a practical way. My hope is to come out of it as a much better musician with new playing techniques, musical...

Re: New to MIDI and Linux. I'm Dying! :(

1. Midi isn't sound, midi is just a set of instructions for a midi instrument to use. In it's most basic form, midi is just a recording of key presses on a keyboard. So when you load up a soft synth for example, you would press a key on your midi keyboard and that would send a midi instruction to th...
