Re: Cannot find a straight answer about spl crimson 3 on linux

I have a UMC1820 and am happy with it; it has worked flawlessly without any special steps needed. I don't know that the difference in the mic pres is going to translate into much of a difference in the recording quality. There are a number of other things that are way more important, in my opinion, ...

Re: Behringer UMC1820 ADAT IO not working

What ADAT device are you hooking up to the UMC1820? I have a ADA8200 and it is plug-and-play, no additional steps needed assuming the clock settings are correct. What exactly is the issue? Are the inputs not recognized, recognized but no sound, out of sync with the UMC1820 inputs, etc ?

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

I dug up some old posts I had read a while back, and it appears I am probably wrong about Ardour and Mixbus having licensing incompatibilities if Ardour's license moved to GPLv3. This would also force Mixbus to change their license to GPLv3 for the open source portion of the program, but that change...

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

I'm no expert on this, but as I understand it, the GPLv2 license allows Harrison to link the free software to its proprietary mixer that sits atop Ardour. The code modifications Harrison makes to Ardour's code to connect their mixer is open source (but not really useful to anyone else), but the mixe...

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

Sorry for the huge bump people, two years. But two years passed and almost nothing changed, while this should have been big news that could change audio on GNU/Linux forever. First, Ardour did not implement VST3. This is possibly due to license incompatibility between Ardour (GPLv2+) and the VST3 S...

Re: Behringer UMC 1820 - New device is ace!

You're welcome. Is MIDI working ok? I saw in the last thread someone mentioned MIDI works on the FCA1616, so I assume Behringer used the same spec for the UMC line but am curious how your experience has been.

Re: Behringer UMC 1820 - New device is ace!

Regarding a panel to move the inputs to the front, you could get a patchbay (such as the ART P16), but getting an ADA8200 isn't that much more and is what I did instead. That setup gives you a total of 10 analog inputs on the front along with 6 in the rear. The ART doesn't increase the number of inp...

Re: Looking for a good quality Audio interface... for cheap...

The ADA8200 just adds 8 more ins and outs, not necessary if you don't need them. The UMC1820 is also Class Compliant, so no additional work is needed to get it recognized on Linux. On AVLinux, it is ready to go upon startup. Ardour sees it as a MIDI device, but I do not have MIDI cables to plug into...

Re: Looking for a good quality Audio interface... for cheap...

I own the Behringer UMC1820 (the FCA1616's replacement model) and am happy with it. I have an ADA8200 connected to it via ADAT which gives me 16 ins and outs with no fuss. I haven't tried hooking up a MIDI device to its ports yet as I mainly record live instruments.

Re: SCARLETT 3RD GEN just announced

I didn't see in the announcement any mention of the 3rd generation units being compatible with iOS, so it may not even be Class Compliant. It is difficult to say from the control panel's release notes, but even if it is, who knows how long it will be before the internal mixer software is reverse eng...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 To Drop 32-Bit x86 Packages

Steam may be well aware of the reality of the situation, and still be looking for another distro. I don't know, but you'd think they would have channels of communication with Ubuntu, and not rely on third party blogs. I'm sure Steam devs and Ubuntu devs are talking directly to each other. I was jus...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 To Drop 32-Bit x86 Packages

This was purely bad reporting by bloggers, not a change of mind or miscommunication from the Ubuntu devs. Here is the final paragraph of the original announcement. I'm guessing the bloggers had stopped reading and were already typing out their assumptions and misinterpretations before reaching this:...

Re: Which DAW to pick?

Connect guitar to DI-box, from di-box to audio interface, there to guitarix and then to daw. And sure, I would record both raw signal and guitarix-made, so that in case there is some fiddling with sounds, there is still raw signal available. <…> So you are recording with guitarix but listening some...

Re: Notation editor that supports piano tabs?

I had never heard of piano tab before now, but I looked it up, and I agree with the prior post that you are better off taking it slow and learning the proper way. I don't think you will find any software that incorporates piano tab given it is not standard notation. I think time spent practicing sig...
