Re: Why are the Calf manuals not published online?
Hey! Are the Calf manuals really not available online anywhere? As barbouze already pointed out this forum is probably not a good place to express your concerns since I don't visit it frequently. I added a link to the website including a warning: Please note that the manuals might be outdated, show ...

Re: Any DAWs offer decent editing of wave recording?
Sorry for nitpicking, but I only count two steps with Ardour as well - cut and move one edge. Strong point is that a failed or improper placed cut can be edited by d'n'd any time later and fading things afterwards is much easier.

Re: Any DAWs offer decent editing of wave recording?
"Muting" in Ardour: * Place the mouse above the part you want to remove * Press "s" key to make a cut * Grab the edges of both parts and drag them until the part is gone * If needed fade in and out both parts by dragging the top left or right corner horizontally Since it is non-d...

Re: Possible to repair cheap midi keyboard or far better to replace?
Lately I bought this one: http://www.thomann.de/de/swissonic_easykey_49.htm ...and I'm very happy with it. Solid casing completely made of aluminium, very accurate keys kind-of weighted, configurable sensitivity, power over USB, p'n'p in Linux - but no aftertouch. The price is more than reasonable. ...

Re: opinions regarding closed-source plugins, was Speek VST for Linux
Sitting back and waiting for the system to crash will lead to exactly the opposite outcome. That system which throttles and chains them will only become more pervasive and powerful, because people sat back, accepted it and allowed it to happen. To me it seems you got my "sit back" quite w...

Re: Speek VST for Linux
There are (lots of) people all over the world who are really attracted by this kind of rat race called capitalism and who would defend it with their lives - even if they suffer from it, instead of thinking about and trying out other ways and ideas of social coexistence. But to me it seems we just ha...

Re: Seeking advice - making background music
The first device should be a noise gate set to a very low threshold (~-60 to -70dB). The attack should be quite fast, release a bit slower. I expect some voice recordings and announces and the like which would result in heavy noise between words and sentences after the following compression war. My ...

Re: Live vocoder setup ideas
If you need improved speech intelligibility while using a vocoder with your voice as modulator raise the little noise and/or dry knobs of the higher bands in Calf Vocoder. Normally carrier signals lack of highs to reproduce the sibilants.

Re: Connecting AMPLIFIER to COMPUTER
Seems not with this amplifier. It has no line out and it has no phono in. Probably the sound card is able to boost the signal without adding too much noise when you plug the turntable directly into the input. The impedances between phono in and line in differ a lot and so do the signal levels which ...

If there are links to topics you already know I'm sorry about but I'm not aware of your level of knowledge. Start with a standard bash script: http://linuxconfig.org/bash-scripting-tutorial Here's a question on StackOverflow about getting the contents of id3v2 tags: http://stackoverflow.com/question...

Re: MP3 tag lyrics
If you're using a file manager capable of user scripts like Nautilus or Thunar a simple bash script using id3v2 in combination with sed and zenity would do it.

Re: When to use a compressor? What is the cause?
Hey DarkMedina, as rghvdberg said - it reduces dynamics. The basic idea is to lower signals above a given threshold by a ratio . After that the makeup raises the signal by a fixed value. http://orm-chimera-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/1234000001552/images/waap_0307.png E.g. threshold is set to -12 dB, rati...

Hey proto,
it works like a charm ootb with very low latency (at least on my ThinkPad W540) which is essential for recording to a DAW's click.
Cheers, Markus.
