Re: PCI Slots In New AMD A88X-based Motherboards
I don't bet in USB providing 24-bit/96KHz with more than 6 channels of outputs and 2+ channels of inputs. It might be possible, but I'm being very conservative here. Firewire may be okay, but I don't care for portability. With firewire becoming obsolete fast I have been looking at usb interfaces. I...

Re: Audio interface and monitors. Suggestions?
As for interface I still swear with RME. My monitors are some PMC DB1S and I really love those.

Re: What laptop to buy
Not much help if the rest of your equipment is running from mains. One pro is backup power via a battery.

What does lsusb says? Just type "lsusb" in a terminal without quotes.

Focusrite scarlett 18i8 and ADAT?
I just read this here and someone asked me yesterday for some info on laptop recording so I have been looking at interfaces. This Scarlett 18i8 looks very interesting to me as it has an ADAT input. And that ADAT can do SMUX as well! So I googled a bit and it looks like it is working with linux but I...

Re: configuring a laptop as a dedicated device?
I looked at dedicated devices but there are a few reasons I won't go that route: - power vs battery isn't an issue, I'm close enough to power and the risk of tripping over cables is small as this is mostly just a few persons that are aware of what is going on - I have already most gear lying around:...

configuring a laptop as a dedicated device?
I would like to put together a portable recording setup. Checked out a few dedicated devices but that turns out to be more expensive than what I want to spend. I don't do this very often so it would need to stay cheap. Now I have a decent laptop that I already use for mobile recording. But it takes ...

Re: What distros are you using?
What are you talking about? If you go to their homepage it says at the right side: "System requirements: A Windows-compatible pc (XP, Vista, 7, 8)..." Bit of a misleading requirement because when you read the rest of the side this comes as a booting usb-stick that includes the OS. Which I...

Re: RME digi9636/52 hdsp9652 sample rate issues
I'm a bit lost in what you are using right now: digi9636, digi9652 or hdsp9652? If you are using the digi9636/52 then you shouldn't use hdspconf. Just set the samplerate in jack. I use qjackctl for that and never had any problem (so far). You could take a look at how the clocking of the multifaces i...

Re: 8 input mic pre-amp?
Buy 8 separate ones. It is modular, transportable, you use only what you need, you can easily replace faulty units and you can even replace and/or upgrade one if you need a special sound or whatever. Eight separate preamps do indeed give advantages, but I'm attracted to having 8 preamps in a single...

Re: 8 input mic pre-amp?
Bump. Nobody here uses separate pre-amps? Or are you looking at a different type of pre-amp?
