Re: Don't use JACK 0.109.X !
it is a shame that it is in Ubuntu Studio imho... This doesn't do any good for people who want to try Linux for music production... That's why I recommend 64studio which is also based on Ubuntu (LTS) from version 3.0 Well, the current stable version of 64studio is even further behind: it's at 0.103...

Re: Don't use JACK 0.109.X !
Note that Ubuntu (Studio) as of 8.10 still comes with 0.109 by default.
The new version is in jaunty but not in intrepid-backports. A backport can be found, however, in Khashayar's personal archive. I'm going to give that a shot.

Re: IRQ of an USB device
I'm not an expert by a long shot, but my understanding so far is as follows: individual devices don't get an IRQ, but each controller gets one, and each controller has its 'hub' as its first device. So to give your Midiman more priority, you should prioritize the IRQ that's associated with the hub f...

Rendering scores
It's not too uncommon to want to show (parts of) scores in an application. I've been looking for a component to take care of the music rendering for me - so far most options seem rather limited. Of course, lilypond is a highly advanced engraver - it might be cool to try and incorporate that into sof...

Re: choosing a score editor
no flow control (repeats, coda etc.) You can make repeats by putting the to-be-repeated measures in one segments and marking it as 'repeated', see http://rosegardenmusic.com/tutorials/en/chapter-3.html#3_4_6 . As for coda signs, I believe you can add those with 'insert lilypond directive', but I be...

Re: Idea for a new notation editor
build also jack and lilypond support for impro-visor please! ;) I recently made a patch for jjack (jack connection library for Java) which adds JACK MIDI support - though it might not be `neat' enough for inclusion in the official distro, it's a start: http://arnout.engelen.eu/files/dev/linuxmusici...

Re: Finale vs. Sibelius on Linux :(
Rosegarden, and it's quite capable as a midi sequencer. I also think that the notation editor is really useful for examining compositions, but even with "print via Lilypond," it just doesn't have the capabilities I need for large-scale or complex scores with advanced articulations, etc. O...

Re: Idea for a new notation editor
I will forward this to the Denemo mailing list. Thanks! I'm exploring on my on in Java for a bit now, but if this turns into something solid I'd be great to try and roll it into Denemo! Take also a look at Impro-Visor, java compozing app Interesting - until now I was using lilypond for rendering th...
