Re: rosegarden dont recognice sox

Actually, I prefer using many different programs that do one thing really good, intead of trying to do everything. That's why I'm one of few who are rather sceptical concerning the planned midi support in Ardour3 Sorry for the OT, but since we are so few, I had to "+1" this. Those impleme...

Re: Mastering suite

For a quick bit-meter try "JACK Bitscope" (actually renamed to "JACK Bitmeter" but in most distros it's still Bitscope)

Re: Mastering suite

I agree it's very nice to see real pros making the jump, this is what will (eventually) make Linux out-sound other platforms right off :D As for metering, I looked a bit into it today, and looks like the best shot is Meterbridge with Fons Adriaensen's ACweight plugin if you need weighting It's prett...

Looks like it half-works.. You know if it's worth it buying a more compatible card

Re: Compressor suggestions?

Thanks for pointing at calf brummer, the truth is that I've never used LV2, but I may just try As for side-chain, on TAP there is no side-chain per se, but if you're working on a mono track, you can more or less make up a "side-chain" using the stereo modes. The SC2 and SC3 have real side-...

Re: Compressor suggestions?

The SC4 is the most recommended, actually... I just like TAP Dynamics (not just a compressor, it's a full blown dynamics processor). I think it's the one that can compete with the Waves C1 in terms of what it can _technically_ do (it's only missing the EQ and a couple small details), however, there ...

If you are using the "Master" control, make sure "PCM" is at it's maximum, if you're using "PCM", make sure "Master" is at it's max....

Other than that, no idea...

Re: Mastering suite

How do you use Japa? Can't find it in Ardour (thanks for the tip) Japa is a stand-alone JACK program. You have to start and connect it manually. (Connect it as an insert in your Ardour track) who actually has a decent stereo setup at home? No one (not even me, hehe), that's why I mix for headphones...

Re: Mastering suite

I don't think that's a problem, actually you're probably better off that way since most consumer surround systems are set up like that, except for the center which is usually oversized. (Nice speakers, by the way.. That's one classy room you got there  ) If you're familiar with M/S then you'll...

Re: Mastering suite

I know you're not stupid, but I can never overstate this enough: Use Ambisonics! :D Even if you're just converting an already existing dumb-style 5.1 mix into Ambisonics (as it would be with pure mastering) with 5 panned sources, it has advantages over dumb 5.1 (like making all the speakers cooperat...

Re: Is a real-time kernel a security risk?

I don't think it's a security risk, you're only running software from safe repositories (just guessing here), and you're not running anything as root. There are much weaker links in the security chain (that will probably go unexploited anyway, as no malware-maker targets Linux yet). In my extremely ...
There is already an podcast...
I don't get the difference between "radio show" and "podcast". (Other than the distribution method, of course) If it was me, the podcast would be just a recorded part of the streaming radio. Not anything else. I ...

Remember that your ears don't have flat frequency response :P

If your sound system was perfect, what you'd hear would roughly (very roughly) match this curve: http://personal.cityu.edu.hk/~bsapplec/frequenc.htm

Re: Flash and mplayer can't coexist with jack [SOLVED]

Why do you have so much trouble with this? 1. Open YouTube/Vimeo video 3. Go to /tmp (on your hard drive) 4. Open the file with the "video" icon, prefixed with "Flash". Do so on your favorite video player, with Jack support and hardware video acceleration  5. Bash me for om...
