Re: Melodyne in Linux

And for milder evil, will free software save you? At least I haven't curated source code of my softwares, and if you use pre-built packages (I do), you can't be 100% sure for package content. Going offtopic, but: for projects that support reproducible builds (https://reproducible-builds.org/), a 3r...

Re: Privacy respecting YouTube alternatives

I visited the front page. Without typing anything in, following the "trending" section had three videos about paedophilia out of the first 30 linked videos. It put me off, rather. Ugh, sorry about that, I should have checked the link better... somehow I got the impression that that was th...

Re: Privacy respecting YouTube alternatives

I've been trying to ignore the issue, but I am increasingly finding myself unhappy about using Google services. IME they are not a force for good in the world. The latest is asking me to upload a driving licence, passport or credit card before letting me see age restricted videos. I'd like to find ...

Re: Please testers needed: Debian Package to Optmize Linux Mint, Ubuntu and Debian Based OSs

I would advise against installing the deb. It contains some fundamental issues, like setting max-user-freq for the real time clock while modern software doesn't use the RTC directly anymore, most if not all rely on the snd-hwtimer kernel module these days. While indeed probably not so relevant anym...

Re: Please testers needed: Debian Package to Optmize Linux Mint, Ubuntu and Debian Based OSs

I had a look at the github page. and in fairness I don't understand .deb format, but the project doesn't appear to be open source? I wouldn't want to give sudo access to a piece of code that I can't examine. Am I missing something? It's indeed not very convenient. To inspect the .deb you can ar x m...

Re: Cheap tablet/ereader for sheet music

My personal theory is that for some people, their electronic devices become a little "bubble" which makes them a bit more insular. All these notifications vying for your attention, and of course the algorithms have worked out exactly what you're interested in, so the little messages in th...

Re: Cheap tablet/ereader for sheet music

Pre COVID unpleasantness, I used to occasionally visit ukulele clubs. Everyone has chord sheets. I noticed that when people replaced their songbooks with tablets they became less able (or maybe less willing) to share the music with the person next to them. People started sitting on their own more. ...

That's sort of debatable, as people are copy-pasting stuff from Wikipedia without proper attribution all the time ;). I agree it's a reasonable approach though.

Hi, I'm discovering this section and I didn't read all the two pinned topics because it looks quite useless as the most important part (the first post of this topic) is no more there, so, I would suggest to the moderators to stop pinning those two topics of this section as it became useless in it's...

This is getting rather offtopic again.

I'll leave this up for now in the name of transparency (even though it was reported by a forum user), but please return to the original topic of making music on linux ;).
