Re: What plugins are similar to newtone and variaudio

Newtone is very similar to Melodyne. I think more people will be able to come up with suggestions for replacements if you mention that as it's more well known ;)

Re: Playing a sampled Instrument in 2021 – is it really that complicated?

Do you have a good computer & audio interface? Is the CPU in performance mode? As for the noises from Xruns, they'll only be there when you're palying, they won't come out in the actual recording. So you can just lower the buffer size temporarily while recording parts if you can put up with the ...

Re: Trouble with Best Service/Magix Engine library (Era II Medieval Legends)

Haha.. yes I pressed that button. I am aware it's Windows software and that I'm trying to use it on Linux. And for this reason they will not offer me support. They told me a while back that they were working on a Linux version of Engine so I was holding out for that. But I just checked with them for...

I thought I'd bump this as it's been a while. I still can't get this thing working :(

Re: Can't even get Linux Native Plugins to work in Bitwig.

You'll have to play with samplerate and buffer settings etc. I'm not sure what's going on with your system but someone more clued up can probably help. What tweaks have you done to Manjaro to make it more suitable for music btw, or have you not? I can help you with that if needed. I know how you fee...

Re: Can't even get Linux Native Plugins to work in Bitwig.

It's the demo actually; just trying things out Linux side before I commit. I'm assuming, by your assumption based remark that Bitwig--being proprietary--is uncouth, and out of keeping with the Open Source ethos? Is this forum about open-source as much as being Linux musicians? If so, my bad. I thou...

Re: Pulse Effects - a limiter for bass?

Post jumped to page 2 here so I wasn't sure to whom you were replying. Wonder where OP has got to, not seen for 4 days. Hope we didn't overwhelm them with techobabble. Yeh I was trying not to haha. I should pay more attention to whom I'm replying to though. Anyway, I think there's e...

Re: Pulse Effects - a limiter for bass?

That would be true for OPs case just listening to music via PulseAudio. I don't know of any dynamic EQ that works with PA. Something like Zam Dynamic EQ or TDR Nova would be great but not loadable as a PA module afaik. For audio production, only a static, preferably parametric, EQ is the way to go ...

Plugins/samples for Medieval/Dungeon Synth music?

Do any of you guys know of any good plugins, samples or soundfonts that'd be ideal for making Medieval & Dungeon Synth music? I'm after both realistic and synthetic sounds. I'm looking for all kinds of medieval instruments, predominantly European ones. I actually bought Era 2 Medieval Legends fr...

Re: Pulse Effects - a limiter for bass?

The problem with using an EQ is that it's not doing dynamic adjustment, it's static. This is fine when the audio content is consistent, but in your use case it's not. A dynamic EQ or Multiband compressor/Limiter is the best option. Still, a static EQ is better than nothing ;)

Re: Pulse Effects - a limiter for bass?

First of all, this is gonna work a lot better if you watch some tutorials about compressors and practice with them. It's so hard to just throw numbers at people and it expect it to work for their situation. It really takes some experience and know how to do properly. However, I'll throw some numbers...

I forgot there's the free version of Waveform. Worth trying if you want to evaluate the program I suppose. I'm not sure what limitations it has compared to the paid version.

Re: shimmer reverb

Haha, yeah, exactly my point. My Bloody Valentine 1983 was called shoegaze back then but now are also listed as post-rock. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_post-rock_bands Not so sure about some acts on that list. Bloody genre pigeonholing. Don't get me started on sub-genres of EDM, or metal. ...
